[Targeted] AmEx Sync Offer: $25 Off $100 At Staples

The Offer

Via Frequent Miler

  • Spend $100 or more at Staples.com with an American Express credit card that is enrolled in this offer and you’ll receive a $25 statement credit

The Fine Print

  • Seems to be a targeted offer, no twitter #hashtag at the moment
  • Offer expires February 7th, 2015
  • Fine print excludes gift card purchases, but this is not enforced

Our Verdict

Staples sells Visa giftcards, $100 cards have a $6.95 fee which means you’d be making profit of $18.05. It’s not possible to earn cash back or loyalty points on gift card purchases through a shopping portal, but if you’re purchasing regular products then you can get up to an additional 6% cash back.

Update: Looks like it’s online only. So the below would not work

and $200 cards have a $6.95 fee. It’s possible to split tender and use multiple credit cards in store. If you have this offer on one card you’d make $19.05 and if you have it on two cards you’d make $43.05. Obviously that is in addition to any credit card points that you would earn.

It might also be worth waiting to see if Staples runs another $20 gift card promotion when you purchase $300 or more in gift cards, which they regularly run. Once the AmEx offer is saved to your account you have until the offer expires to redeem it, so there is no real harm in waiting.

I bought $28.xx at a Shell gas pump because my car wouldn’t hold enough for the $30 offer. I got an email confirmation that the deal was used, but then the credit never came through.

“Fine print excludes gift card purchases, but this is not enforced”

If they want to I guess, they can enforce it. During regular purchases, I don’t see that Amex has information on what did I purchase, but I noticed that when I redeemed both Office max and Staples offers last year, they do know exactly what I bought. It shows in Amex online activity. If I got to details, it shows that I bought 200 VISA CARD. Although, they did give credit to me at that time. I don’t know if at that time too they excluded Gift Card or not. But my point is, Amex can find out what did you buy from Staples while you redeemed this offer.

T&C specifically mentions physical & egift cards not applicable. Would you know from experience if it is enforced?

I forgot to use separate browsers to add the Staples AMEX offer. Don’t make the same mistake I made.

Dansdeals:
“If you also have multiple cards with the offer don’t rush to save the offer to your account! Open up the Offers page for each card in a separate tab in the same browser. Then go between the tabs to save the offer to each of your targeted cards. Otherwise once you save the offer to one card it disappears from your other cards.”

The offer states staples.com. Does this work in store?
