How To Get Targeted

There is no sure fire way to get targeted for this offer, unlike some other card offers. The e-mail/letter people receive has a unique code that can only be used once, it’s possible it’s not tied to a particular name/person but we can’t confirm that for sure.  Mortgasm on /r/churning had this to say in regards to getting targeted:

Wife got this. She has a new (last few months) Hyatt Account with 0 points. I just signed up for a new account to see if I can get one. She has till 11/30 to apply.

It’s possible new accounts are being specifically targeted, but lots of people with aged Hyatt accounts also got the offer. I suspect Chase is just testing this new offer (they have sent it out in the past to even fewer people) to see how it converts to the standard two night offer and what retention/spending is like for those customers that do sign up.

Comparison To Two Free Night Offers

The Chase Hyatt card currently has two offers:

The two free nights can be used at any Hyatt property worldwide, but they have a one year expiry (points on the other hand expire after 24 months of no activity). Hyatt has seven different award levels that cost the following amount of points:

  • Category 1: 5,000 points
  • Category 2: 8,000 points
  • Category 3: 12,000 points
  • Category 4: 15,000 points
  • Category 5: 20,000 points
  • Category 6: 25,000 points
  • Category 7: 30,000 points

Basically the free night offer is only better if you plan to redeem your free night certificates for category seven properties (you could argue that category six properties would also be better as you could possible also get the $50 statement credit). In total there are only seven category seven properties in the Hyatt program, so I think the vast vast majority of people will be better offer with the 50k point offer.

Our Verdict

I predicted some changes to the Hyatt card and one of them was a 50,000 point offer, it’s a shame this one is targeted but I suspect Chase & Hyatt will both be happy with the uptake of this offer and it’ll eventually become a public offering. It’ll b interesting to see if any of my other predictions come to fruition or not.

If I got targeted for this Hyatt offer, I’d definitely jump on it. I actually like most Hyatt properties (even though they are still cookie cutter like most chain hotels), but what I like in particular is that they have category 1 properties in places I actually want to stay. This offer would be 11 nights at a category one property and I could see myself easily using those points up (I quite often transfer my Chase UR to Hyatt for this reason, so this would make this offer worth at least $550 in cash as I could instead turn those Chase UR into cash).

I like the points offer better.

Has anyone that has gotten the card recently gotten Chase to match this offer? I recently got the 2 nights+5,000+$50 credit. But I’d rather lose the $50 and get 50k points since we never stay at the super expensive hotels anyways.

DoC, what do you mean when you say: you could argue that category six properties would also be better as you could possible also get the $50 statement credit… categories have nothing to do with any statement credit on the CC.

basically, the original offer is better if you plan to redeem 2 nights at Cat 6 or 7 property because you also get a $50 SC. however if you value lower categories, then this offer is better as it can get you upto 10 nights at a Cat1 property.

The “original” offer now seems to require a previous stay and if you plan to redeem a Category 6 or 7, it may be better IF you plan such redemption within the next year.

If not, then the points have no real expiration and they are a far better choice, as well as providing far greater versatility.

does this count as a new credit card product from the traditional Hyatt card?

Not sure why you would think that — it is just a different promotion from their regular offer — I see no change to the credit card.

Does Hyatt have any restrictions on using points (i.e like awards seats availability on airlines) ?

I meant to write that the combination of an old Hyatt account with new stay activity and no Hyatt credit card was what triggered the offer.

Partner was targeted with the offer even though has a very old account.

However, partner made 2 Hyatt stays this year, one quite recently and paid for both with obviously non-Hyatt credit cards. I think that combination of having an old Hyatt account but no Hyatt credit card triggered the offer.

I have a new Hyatt account and I was “targeted” with the old offer yesterday. I might just call and ask for this one though.

I can smell devaluation of Hyatt points.

For us with more than 5 inquiries the last months, is this worth anything? I’d like to do it.

i don’t think 5 inquiries matter since this is not a Chase proprietary rewards program.

It’s actually been (mostly) established that the 5/24 rule only affects Chase UR personal cards – NOT co-branded cards. Not saying you’ll definitely get approved, but for what it’s worth I’ve had far more than 5 accounts opened in the last two years on the credit report Chase pulled and got approved for a co-branded card (IHG) with my largest balance yet just a month ago.

This is far more appealing to me than the 2 free nights offer, especially because I’m not a luxury traveler and Hyatt can be combined with UR points, but I’m a few months away from being eligible to reapply for the SW card bonuses and might not risk it.

The only thing that has been established is DO NOT CALL, even co branded cards like Hyatt and others are being denied if an applicant calls in.

You’ll be fine – so long as you haven’t applied for 2 Chase cards in the past 30 days. Other than that, their co-branded cards are typically very easy to get with higher CL.
