Our Verdict
The best return for this bonus is depositing $25,000, you’re basically getting a 4.8% APY return for three months if you deposit the funds on August 31st and withdraw them on November 30th, realistically you’re not going to be able to do that perfectly. You’re also burning a ChexSystems inquiry for a return that only lasts three months. This is certainly better than the promos Citibank has run in the past for their savings accounts, but it’s still not worth doing in my opinion. Their $400 checking bonus is a better option, but if you’ve received this targeted offer chances are you already have an account. You can view a list of the accounts we do recommend opening here.

Maybe it’s too late for me to post this here but I still haven’t gotten the bonus and I’m currently fighting with them. Opened 2 “investigations.” First response referred to a completely different promotion which had nothing to do with my promo.
For second one, I got the blanket copy-pasted response of “Unfortunately, there was not cash promotion offered in conjunction with the opening of your account. While Citi does offer cash promotions at times, those offers are only available to the individual to whom the offer was addressed.”
Opened a 3rd and final investigation which I’m almost certain will also be shot down. So I’ll have to CFPB them anyway.
I have the offer page saved so that should help. But is there any way to confirm that I had enrolled in this offer? I mean they can simply claim that while there was this promo, I never enrolled in it, so it’s kinda like my word against theirs ?
Also got the dreaded “Unfortunately, there was not cash promotion offered in conjunction with the opening of your account. While Citi does offer cash promotions at times, those offers are only available to the individual to whom the offer was addressed.”
Luckily, I have four saved messages from Citi that I qualified for promotion since it was on their splash page when I logged into my account on Citi.com. I suspect the error was caused because they downgraded my CITIGOLD account into a CITIPRIORITY after the promotion was over and the code did not get transferred to the new account. I’m arguing with them that they cannot change the terms of the promotion after I met all qualifications and that I had reassurances from four different CitiGold account specialists that I would get my money by 2/28/2017. Will probably file a CFPB complaint if I do not hear from them in the next few days.
Same thing here, has a msg from them saying I will get it no later than 2/28.
Still nothing……
FILE CFPB. you will get it within 15 days
Filed CFPB. got a response back that I was not eligible for the promotion, but since the chat rep confirmed that I was eligible for the promotion they will give me the $300 anyways.
giving excuses even in the CFPB response
Did you finally get it? Same case with me. The offer did not say it was a targeted one. Is visiting near by branch would be of any help? Any specific documents you attached with CFPB complaint?
Yes I got it. just attached the offer screenshot and mentioned no where in there it states that is targetted.
Thanks! I finally got it too through CFPB.
Got this from Citi: “Unfortunately, there was not cash promotion offered in conjunction with the opening of your account. While Citi does offer cash promotions at times, those offers are only available to the individual to whom the offer was addressed.”
I wrote a letter saying that the offer which I enrolled was offered to me when I accessed the
Citibank website and enclosed a printout of the offer.
Let’s see…
Any update? I am thinking of filing with CFPB…
I filed a CFPB.
No bonus for me yet, anyone else in the same boat?
none for me as well
Same here. No bonus yet. I already had a checking account – which is not a gold account. Wondering if that matters.
Also got mine. Dated 1/12/2017
Got mine today! thanks Doc for sharing the offer

Awesome
I nudged Citi for my bonus after keeping 25000 until 30th Nov. They recently replied back that I am not eligible as the offer was targeted. They refereed to the terms and said:

As a reminder the Terms and Conditions for promotion 454SRRUZ5X state the following which is why you did not qualify:
“This is a targeted campaign and only targeted customers can enroll in these offers.
This offer is available only to targeted customers who received this offer via a direct communication from Citi…”
Unquote
Anyone has had similar experience. Any advise on how to pursue this further?
I believe the offer code is 454ST5PKRL like someone above posted. I got the same code from the banker when he opened my account. Yours looks different, may want to check it.
That promotional code was probably someone’s targeted code. I don’t think it’s the same promotion. The $300 – $700 tier bonus wasn’t targeted. If I remember correctly it was on their website so gotta wait til 2/28/17 the latest, to see if the bonus deposited. I’m afraid the rep at the branch that opened the account for me screwed it up. She did not give me any confirmation that I’ve enrolled in such promotion the way Chase would give me a confirmation printout.
I got mine too on 1/13/16 yay!!
Earlier than 2/28/17 as originally thought!!
But it had this weird description like Q3 adj but I assume it’s the bonus since I’m not expecting any other credits!
Has anyone received their bonus cash yet? I kept the funds in the account till December 5th just to be on the safe side but haven’t received anything yet.
Still waiting on mine as well. About to poke Citi to see what’s the deal, but I didn’t seem to record the promo code when I signed up. Came here looking for the promo code.
Guys, we’ll have to wait a few more months for the bonus…
The offer code is 454ST5PKRL.

I spoke to Citi rep who said it would take up to 90 days FROM the date of completing the offer requirements. Since I deposited the money on the last day (8/31), I had to keep my money until 11/30 simply to meet the offer requirement. And then wait 90 days from 8/31 – meaning until 02/29/17 to get the bonus.
Sorry I meant that I have to wait 90 days from 11/30 (not 8/31) to actually get the bonus.
Thank you. Do we need to keep the account open (with $500 to avoid fees) till the bonus posts in 90 days?
Thank you!
I participated in this and I don’t have to keep the money in my savings account anymore. So in that case do you recommend downgrading the account? Or just withdrawing the money (put it in a High yield savings account) and paying the monthly fee?
