The Offer

  • Spend $5 or more at Google play using an American Express card that is enrolled in this offer and receive a $5 statement credit.

The Fine Print

  • Targeted offer, it’s not possible to enroll with a Twitter hashtag at the moment

  • Must spend $5 or more in a single purchase

Our Verdict

Google Play sells a lot of different things, many of which sell for $5 or less (make sure your total is a single purchase of $5 or more), for example they have:

I’m not sure if purchasing a gift card/store credit will work or not, but I suspect that Google has coded so that it won’t trigger the $5 credit. If it does work, then let me know in the comments below.

Google play credit worked fine for me, used two times, received $5 credit for each the next business day.

Has anyone successfully used this offer, whether for a gift card/credit or even for a regular purchase?

Exactly, but there’s no way to NOT pay via Google Wallet from my account. The two are married together and there’s no option to pay directly with credit card. Maybe it might work for accounts that never signed up for Google Wallet in the first place.

You should be able to purchase anything directly from play.google.com. I’d use a desktop computer to be safe, but those transactions are processed by Google Play, not directly GW.

Make sure it won’t go through the GW. If it does, I read that it won’t trigger the $5.

Terms and conditions exclude purchases made using Google Wallet. The problem is that Google Wallet is the only payment option (at least for my account), so there’s no way for me to trigger this. I tried once on one of my AMEX card and it isn’t triggering.

If I buy 5 individual songs, will it count as 5 small purchases, or 1 large one?

All I have is iPhone and kindle fire – any way for me to take advantage of this?

The terms and conditions don’t exclude anything – what makes you think a gift card/reload transaction won’t trigger the credit?
