If I have a Schwab account and the American Express Platinum Schwab credit card, can I add my wife as a joint owner on my Schwab checking/brokerage account and then she will be eligible to apply for the Platinum Schwab card also?

I am asking because my wife has a lot of membership rewards points that we would like to covert to cash through the Platinum Schwab card. If that won’t work, is there any way to transfer her membership rewards points to my account to covert to cash that way?

Thanks!

Unsurprisingly, the American Express Platinum Card® for Schwab has gone up to a new $550 annual fee. There is a new 60k MR points bonus for spending $5000 in the first three months. Like some of the other AmEx cards, there is a new $15/month Uber credit, with an extra $5 Uber credit in December (for a total of $20 in December, or $185/year). Everything else is largely the same.

Hey Doc, I’m getting the following error when I try to sign up: “Invalid Promotion code TEMP submitted. Please call 800-435-4000 for assistance.”

Are there other cards w/ similar brokerage cash-out options?

The two Charles Schwab American Express cards are not listed on the American Express website, but the Delta, Starwood, Hilton American Express are listed. What does this mean? Are the Schwab cards not true co-branded cards?

They are listed when you login to your Scwab account

I know I read this somewhere, and I’d love for someone here who has already done it to confirm it for me. I have an AMEX PRG with 50,000+ MR sitting. I’ll cancel that card early next year. I’d love to sign up for this Platinum, take advantage of the airline credit for this year and next, and transfer the MR pts from the PRG to this one and redeem for cash at the 1.25 rate.

Is that possible? Appreciate any help.

Yes; that is exactly what I did. All MR can be pooled and transferred to your Schwab account at the 1.25 rate. I have been using the cash in the account to buy more stock in my account.

What’s this about the “High Yield Checking” with Schwab? I’m seeing 0.35% on their website.

FYI, Schwab sent email last night offering 60k for Platinum after $5k spend in 3 mos. Does not appear to be targeted–email explicitly says to share with friends and family.

Would you mind sharing the link for 60k MR?

The link at the top of the page gives me 60kpoints for 5k spend. Trying to triple dip the $200 airline AA card and cash out some points.

Annual fee is now $550.

How will you triple dip? Dec 17, any 2018, Jan 19 and then immediately cancel when the annual fee hits on the same statement? Evidence of that working without a clawback from AMEX?

Walter, That’s the plan. I haven’t heard of them clawing back yet for that. I applied for the checking account, and the brokerage account was part of the application process. I didn’t put anything into the checking or brokerage account yet. Then I applied for the amex plat schwab card and was approved.

Could hard inquiries get combined if you apply for the Schwab Platinum and an Amex directly issued card, like the Green card (purely for bonus), on the same day?
