The Offer
- United Shopping Portal is offering a bonus until August 18th. Bonus you receive depends on how much you spend and is broken down as follows (you only receive the bonus on the highest tier you reach):
- Spend $150, get 500 miles (works out to be extra 3.33x miles per $1 spent)
- Spend $350 get 1,500 miles (works out to be extra 4.285x miles per $1 spent)
- Spend $600, get 3,000 miles (works out to be an extra 5x miles per $1)
The Fine Print
- During the “Back to School Bonus” bonus campaign, which runs from 07/21/17 through 08/18/17 at 11:59:59 pm ET (the “Bonus Period”), Member will earn a one-time bonus of up to 3,000 MileagePlus® bonus award miles on qualifying purchases, in addition to the standard MileagePlus® miles earned from shopping online through the MileagePlus® Shopping mall.
- This one-time bonus award will be determined using one of the following tiers, based on Member’s cumulative qualifying purchases made during the Bonus Period: Tier 1 bonus: 500 miles for qualifying purchases of at least $150; Tier 2 bonus: 1,500 miles for qualifying purchases of at least $350; or Tier 3 bonus: 3,000 miles for qualifying purchases of $600 or more.
- “Qualifying purchases” do not include returns, cancellations, shipping and handling, taxes, gift card or other cash equivalent purchases, and certain products that are not eligible for bonus miles.
- Please see the MileagePlus® Shopping mall site for details on product eligibility and other restrictions. Please allow 8-10 weeks after the Bonus Period for bonus award miles to post to your MileagePlus® Shopping account.
- The Tier 3 bonus provides the maximum number of miles that will be awarded. Void where prohibited by law.
Our Verdict
Bonuses are actually pretty significant this time, especially the last tier. As always make sure you compare rates with other online shopping portals by using a site like cashbackmonitor to ensure you’re getting the best rates.
American Airlines AAdvantage is also running a similar promo currently.
I completed the terms of the 3,000 mile bonus and the miles have not posted yet. It hasn’t been 10 weeks, so I guess they are serious about it taking that long.
I’m always having to go back and contact customer service to make sure my orders tracked correctly and to receive any bonuses. Since I ever get an email or confirmation of it tracking, I have been shying away from using the United shopping portal vs cash back portals that have a better system of tracking/investigating.
