United Have Started Offering In Flight Applications For Chase Card (50,000 Miles + $50 Offer Available To Everybody)

Previously Chase were not allowing United to offer credit cards to customers on board United flights. United flagged that this would be changed in a recent earnings call and it seems they have already started to promote the card in flight. Reddit user IvanXQZ reported receiving a pack of mints (that apparently weren’t very tasty) and the following offer:

  • 50,000 miles after $3,000 in spend within the first three months
  • $50 after first purchase

The offer is marked as an inflight exclusive, but you still can’t actually apply in flight and you’re instead redirected to the following landing page: http://unitedexplorercard.com/5050 and the offer is open to anybody.

That’s better than the public offer for 50,000 miles but not on the same level as the widely targeted offer for 70,000 miles + $50. I’m really more interested in when it becomes possible to actually apply for these cards inflight, as there is some evidence to suggest that this might bypass the 5/24 rule. Note: This current link does not work to bypass 5/24.

Do did anybody over 5/24 actually apply and get approved? Seems really unlikely this would bypass 5/24.

As for “who flies United”, I’m flying in middle of a roundtrip Newark to San Diego with my wife for a total of 50K miles and 22.40 in fees (booked 6 hours before the flight).. so me 🙂

Do you get thrown off the plane if you’re over 5/24?

Got this offer on the mints packet in a flight last week. Could not get in-flight app to proceed beyond the 1st application screen with my name, address and mileage plus number
There is also an inflight card advertising an offer with the URL http://United explorercard.com/50Koffer that does not have the $50 credit. I will re-try the in-flight app tomorrow.

I tried to apply on a LAX-IAD flight past weekend. Again could not get past the initial Chase screen. I guess it needs the paid WiFi to access anything beyond the initial Chase application screen. Way over 5/24 and did not want to pay the $7 for internet to check.. Will try in-branch if I am near one in the future.

I applied in-flight with no purchased Wifi yesterday. I made to several more screens until no server response. I did apply successfully using laptop instead. The network was very slow but it can connect to http://United explorercard.com/50Koffer and redirects to chase application site with a unique URL.

Those of us who like understandable, reasonably priced award charts with decent availability, and other things they do ok with:

Its not bad. You can get flights from chicago to south east asia for under $600 for most of the year, flight experience is equal to other intl’ carriers now. Other airlines are $300+ for same availability. I flew them to manila via hong kong 2 weeks ago. No complaints, add in 2 united club passes for $30 from ebay and its a hell of a deal. Took a shower in hong kong, self serve bar there too.

United has good reward availability. Better than AA to Latin America

Just applied. I am WAY over 5/24. Got the 30 day language. Debating whether to call in or just wait for the letter. Will report back.

Thanks. Many will be interested to hear about it. This is clearly one example of a partnership where 2 horses are strapped before the same coach and want to move in different directions. I struggle to imagine a reprise of the recent announcement of cordiality between Chase and Hyatt for this coupling.

What message do you get when you call the automated app status line? This is the important one.

It is the 30 day message.

Cautiously optimistic.

So I accidentally applied inside the 24 month period of my last United bonus and get denied for that reason. No hard pull though, apparently.

My wife applied and got the same 30 day language, and her last bonus was more than 24 months ago, so we’ll see what happens to her app.

Wife’s card denied.

Takeaway- this method does NOT get around 5/24.

I also applied inflight yesterday and got the 30 day language. Hope this will work out.
