USAA Now Offering Free VantageScores & How Anybody Can Access One

Awhile ago it was announced that USAA would be giving it’s cardholders access to their Experian VantageScore. This benefit is now live and all USAA cardholders can access their VantageScore for free by logging into their account, it should be clearly displayed in the top left of the screen when you log in. The score will be updated once monthly

This was a weird announcement and decision by USAA, most card issuers now offer their cardholders free access to their FICO score which is used in 90%+ of lending decisions (compared to ~6% for VantageScore). The decision not to offer a FICO score was likely motivated by cost factors, but it’s even more perplexing when you consider that it’s possible for anybody to already get their VantageScore for free.

How Anybody Can Get Their VantageScore For Free

Final Thoughts

I really wish USAA would offer a free FICO score rather than a VantageScore, but given that so many other credit card issuers are already offering these free scores it’s really not a big issue for those who have multiple credit cards.
