Two pieces of Venmo news:
- American Express gift cards are no longer working. Like Frequent Miler I had hoped this was a temporary issue but that unfortunately does not seem to be the case.
- They are testing a physical card. Not surprising given that Square is doing the same. Unfortunately these have no use as you should be earning a minimum of 2% cash back on all purchases.
It’s not just AGC but one vanilla visa as well. Used to be working but now stopped working this week.

My understanding is that the change was made by AMEX and not Venmo. So the anger is midirected probably.

I actually discovered this by accident when I was given a 1k AGC last christmas and needed another route to liquidate when walgreens had rejected my attempt to purchase a VGC with it. When I found out it wasn’t taking a fee, I didn’t tell a soul – not even my own wife. Imagine the horror of seeing all those stupid posts on flyertalk about Venmo and every stupid kid spilling the details about it. This was inevitable.
This is why we keep secret any remaining MS friendly techniques that are still viable.

If you search the history on this website, you’ll notice DOC has never delved into the Venmo-AGC route before though he clearly knew it existed. He only posts some MS techniques after they’ve been shutdown as a postmortem discussion.
He doesn’t draw attention to working MS techniques knowing more noobs will only get said route shutdown quicker.
I moved 50k through Venmo-AGC route slowly $60-$300 at a time. Randomized the days apart per transaction and the amount across multiple family members, all with different IP addresses. Then an idiot on flyertalk gets wind of this and pushes 3k in their first transaction, venmo shuts them down, and this noob calls into venmo asking for his money back and revealing he he’s using a 3k AGC.

Sure, it’s an extra step (and about 1% loss in profit), but at least you don’t have to float 8K while you liquidate them thru normal spend
Used to be able to liquidate one vanillas with venmo but seems dead as well. USPS stopped accepting one vanilla as well.

The worst thing is the arrogance of people who keep methods to themselves. DOC is sharing new deals, not every known MS route. There’s a difference.
DOC knows the game – this venmo route starting having issues last week and DOC waited a week until he knew it was really dead before posting about it. Didn’t draw additional attention to this in case it was a temporary glitch. He’s only revealed other past MS routes after it was shutdown, didn’t ruin the game for those of us already in the loop. DOC is awesome on so many levels and I am always appreciative of his terrific site.
There are still other routes to draw down AGCs with minimal fees, for those that know – just keep it to yourself please. Don’t let our other methods get shutdown. 50k through Venmo, was great while it lasted. The game continues on!
