Verizon Customers: Save on Gift Cards from Best Buy, Gamestop, Gap and More

The Offer

Verizon wireless customers can buy electronic gift cards directly in their messenger app. The idea is to send them as messages to others, but you can also buy them for yourself. We covered this previously (see our step-by-step walk through there) and Chasingthepoints also wrote up more about it.

Via @ttitle1 on Twitter, Verizon is currently offering discounts on some of these gift cards:

  • $55 Best Buy e-gift card for $50
  • $60 Gap e-gift card for $50
  • $30 GameStop e-gift card for $25
  • $30 Regal e-gift card for $25
  • $30 Red Robin e-gift card for $25
  • Bass Pro Shops ($30 for $25?)
  • Domino’s ($30 for $25?)

The Fine Print

  • $100 max gift cards per month can be purchased by adding the charge onto your monthly Verizon Wireless bill

Our Verdict

Pretty good deal here to get the discount + 5x or 10% using an Amex Offer.

Limited to $100 per month, unfortunately. You can buy more with direct credit card payment, but I don’t know if direct payment earns 5x.

Thanks again to @ttitle1 for sharing the details and screenshot.

I read on another site that there is a limit of one $5 bonus gift card per company. I don’t know whether this is true, but it may be.

I bought a $25 Regal gift card through this app, and supposedly I also get a $5 bonus one. I’m not sure how to get the bonus one. It didn’t appear in the app. Does anyone know how the bonus gift card is delivered?

The base gift card is sent as a text to the the phone you select as recipient (can be yourself). Shows as text from your phone number. Bonus code sent as separate text to your phone. Shows as coming from 5555. I received both almost instantly when I bought a gamestop GC.

Thanks for the responses. I used a tablet that had the messenger program to send the gift cards, and sent the gift cards to myself. The only one that should have had a bonus was Regal. The $25 base gift card arrived at the tablet messenger program, but the bonus never did. I wonder if the bonus can only be retrieved on the phone, and not the tablet that sent it. That would be a shame since I don’t have a smart phone, and my phone isn’t showing it.

Nevermind, it looks like I was able to open it on my phone. Hopefully they’ll be able to use the bonus gift card from my phone’s tiny screen.

From what I understand, you get/send the base GC and get the bonus is delivered to you separately. So, does the $100/mo limit count toward the base amount or base+bonus? Asked another way, can you buy 2 BB deals per month “@$50 ea” with the $100 limit?

For me, it seems it applied to just the base value. Between yesterday and today I bought $75 in Amazon gift cards through this app, and $25 (+$5 bonus) Regal gift card. No details on this have shown up at the Verizon site yet.

I forgot about this. Apart from the discounted cards, this would be useful to get the $100 ebay cards for when you need them, I assume you get the cards almost instantly?

Help me out here… when I try it the only option I have is Starbucks. Despite searching I can’t figure out how to pull up other options. Anyone?

If you pay your Verizon bill (including gift cards) with Chase Ink, do you know if you’ll get the Chase UR 5% as well?
