Visa Discounts: Get A Variety Of Discounts At Various Merchants

A reader shared a link to Visa Discounts website with me via e-mail. It wasn’t something that I was familiar with, so I figured it was worth a post to let others that also aren’t informed know about it (similar to the awesome bet you didn’t know series on Frequent Miler).

Visa Discounts seems to be a weird mix of a shopping portal and American Express sync offers. Basically how it works is that you need to click through the Visa Discounts website to the merchant you want to shop at and then use a Visa credit card for your purchase. In some cases they’ll give you a coupon code to add, in others the discount will be applied automatically.

Unfortunately this means you can’t stack it with other shopping portals, so it’s not quite as good as the AmEx offers, the upside is that all of the deals are public (rather than some being targeted). Some of the offers aren’t valid on gift card purchases, while other offers do not include that clause.

There are a number of profitable gift card reselling opportunities, I’ll give you one example:

Update: Giftcards.com doesn’t take Papa Johns eGiftcards, so this specific example won’t work but you get the general idea. Thanks to JB in the comments for letting me know.

  • Visa Discounts are offering a 25% discount at Papa Johns. Papa Johns sell eGiftcards and giftcards are not excluded from this deal. You can resell these gift cards for 76.75% of face value to Giftcards.com (who accept eGiftcards at that full rate) which is profit of 1.75% + any credit card rewards you earn.

If you used the new Discover it Miles for example, you’d be earning a profit of 4.75%. Even if you weren’t just looking for pure arbitrage opportunities, they also have a nice discounts for regular purchases. For example, at the moment you can save $5 off any $50+ purchase at Target.

I’m going to do a bit more experimenting with Visa discounts and purchasing gift cards to see what does and doesn’t work. Have you used Visa discounts before? What was your experience like?

How would you use a Discover card if you have to pay with a Visa card?

giftcards.com doesn’t accept eGC for Papa Johns
“Not eligible to be a gift code”
Just wanted to get a couple hundred but this won’t work. Will have to look through the other offers then.
