The Offer

Direct link to offer (p15)

  • Get a $5 Walgreens giftcard for free when you purchase two or more Vanilla Visa gift cards

walgreens

The Fine Print

  • Valid until December 10th, 2016

Our Verdict

They also have purchase two $25 Nike or iTunes gift cards and get $5 Walgreens gift card. Might be useful if you still need to max out the Chase Freedom 5x (drugstores) this quarter, otherwise use another card that earns at a high rate on drug store purchases. You’ll need to input your Walgreens Balance Rewards membership to get gift card.

Some areas will accept credit cards for gift card payments, other areas won’t.

My local WG only allows 1 $500 VGC purchase per day unless you buy 2 for $250 and thus pay two activation fees. Useless deal. Thanks for posting though!

Do you have to buy both of them in the same transaction?

There’s a big sign on our gift card rack at WAG that says “Limit 1 Visa/MC/Amex gift card per day…

This has happened to me in the past and I spoke with the manager pointing to the ad that says wyb any TWO vanillas with the variable card in the pic. she apologized and told cashier to allow me to buy 2 for the promotion. That’s how I know it is an arbitrary store policy although some SMs won’t budge. I just go to the ones with friendly store managers who knows I’ve bought these in 2’s when the offer comes.

you know what the weird thing about Walgreens GCs is? While you’d be right to expect you can’t use them for GCs or Alcohol/tobacco – you also can’t use them to buy *Dairy* products, including butter, ice cream, milk, etc.

Doesn’t apply to medicine (even prescriptions), food, electronics, etc. Just dairy (and alcohol/tobacco, but that’s probably for ID-related issues).

Yes, great point bob re: dairy. This is a HUGE negative for Walgreens GCs. Even worse, it is enforced everywhere!

I think you’re mistaken.

These GCs you take from the rack can be use to pay for dairy products and other items they sell. The ones will a lot of restrictions are the WAG merchandise credit that is given for refunds and exchange. That has all the restrictions you mentioned, but not the regular ones bought off the rack.

Mimi is totally correct.

One will take a Wags GC that bears on the back a $5 minimum load amount with you to the register when you purchase the two Visa GCs. You may buy two in the same purchase with two amounts that do not exceed $500,

Example:
1-$25 VGC
1-$475 varialbe load VGC.

Last time I checked the fees were $3.95, $4.95 respectively.

Wouldn’t hurt to have the sales circular in store opened to the page where the promo is shown and check the customer terminal screen to make sure the Wags GC cost is deducted before swiping a card. HTH!
