I contacted online customer support last night, because I have an immediate family member (parent) in one of those counties, but I reside in VA. (FYI DOC, those are counties, but your blurb makes them sound like cities)

Their response today: “Based on the information that you have provided, your parent is eligible to submit an Individual or Joint application. Based on the address information that you have provided, you would not be eligible to open an Individual account.”

Sounds like you have to live with the immediate family member, or at least nearby. They really should clarify that on their site.

Called a rep just now and told them I don’t live in one of their service areas, but have family that does. The rep stated that I would be eligible and could open online.

I live in Chicago (Cook county) and work in the north shore all the time.

Account was opened and then immediately closed because I do not “reside” in one of the counties, even though the application only requires that you work there.

May call to see if I can do it over the phone, but I wouldn’t try this one unless you live in one of the specific counties listed.

Within minutes. I called and though the rep admitted that the application included people who both live and work in the area, due to my many open checking accounts I wasn’t “the type of client” they were looking for.

I basically said that was nonsense and they had no right to deny me on that basis, but she politely told me there was no way.

Other fish in the sea.
