Will SPG Transfer 1:3 To Marriott? & Status Match Details

User feiliujun posted the following images on chinese message board bbs showing the ability to link yout SPG & Marriott accounts and also the fact that SPG points will transfer to Marriott at a 1:3 ratio:

spg-to-marriott-2

spg-to-marriott

In addition to showing the transfer rate, this image also shows what the status match levels will be:

  • SPG Regular: Marriott Silver Elite
  • SPG Gold: Marriott Gold Elite
  • SPG Platinum: Marriott Platinum Elite

Personally I think this transfer rate seems to make sense (at least from a credit card perspective) the standard bonus on SPG card is 25,000 points and on Marriott it’s typically 80,000 points (with the annual fee as well). A 1:1 rate would be leave all SPG customers incredibly angry and a rate of 1:2 wouldn’t be much better. I’d still prefer 1 SPG point to 3 Marriott points, but I wouldn’t be terribly unhappy with this conversion.

My independent sources are saying all of this will be confirmed tomorrow. We shall have to wait and see. What are your thoughts on the status match and also 1:3 transfer rate?

Hat tip to feiliujun on bbs and /r/churning for pointing me there

“chinese message board bbs”

Eh…just for future reference, ‘BBS’ simply stands for ‘Bulletin Board System’, which simply means forum/message board.

The actual name of the BBS is 积友之家 (in Simplified Chinese), or simply ‘3798’ in English. It’s a subdomain of http://www.3798.com

The SPG-to-Marriott 1:3 transfer is now live. Also, after linking the two accounts, I have been immediately upgrade to Marriott Gold Elite from my current SPG status.

@ivan, you mean your SPG points have been transferred to your marriott account? Does your spg account still say you are spg gold? Thanks.

Why take 1 spg over 3 marriot if you can convert 270k marriott for 7 nights in a cat 5 + 120k miles? That would mean 90k spg for 120k miles and 7 nights in a marriott cat 5.

I like that idea

Though come to think of it, 90k SPG points reserved at one of their top hotels is probably still a better redemption if you prefer luxury. If you want your points to go a long way, then i agree with you.

but remember 90k can not only lead to 7 nights at cat 5 and 120k points but also Companion Pass should RR redemption be chosen. I this this deal will be of good value for many of us.

Or it requires some combination of Marriott points one may already have accumulated and SPG points converted 1:3.

What about gaming Marriott vs spg points pre and post merger? Sign up for what cards when?

No indication on when that transfer must be made or if it’s automatic after a certain date? How about any idea on when SPG properties will stop accepting SPG points?
