Our Verdict

We’ve seen this offer on business and personal cards before, normally it’s offered when your annual fee will become due during the offer period. This would mean you’d earn 2x SPG points per $1 spent if you spend $5,000, if you spent this before December 31st, 2016 you’d also get an extra point on Small Business purchases.

Keep in mind you can also transfer SPG points to Marriott at a rate of 1:3 now as well. Here are some ideas on what do you with your SPG and Marriott points.

What if I return some purchase? Will those count for $5k?

Awesome wife was targeted. Pair this with small businesses shopping until end of Dec. 3x until then.

I believe Raise.com counts as small biz too

Plastiq is qualifying for the Small Business 2x, so if you have this promotion now you can earn 3x Spg on Plastiq payments through 12/31. Also there are a bunch of Amex Offers that can generate slightly profitable MS through gc reselling.

My understanding is the Amex offers are counted against net purchases for the purposes of a promotion like this. I.e., if you spent $5,000 but received $500 in Credits for Amex offers, you would probably need to spend another $500 to make sure you get the bonus. Can anyone confirm or deny? TIA.

Oh phooey. I was hoping to be targeted only for the added point for small biz, making it 3x points…

Anyone seen any non targeted possibly incognito offers above 25k on the spg biz?

Not targeted any of our cards (2x personal and bus for wife and I) 🙁 Sad day. Business are new, still in the signup period. Consumer cards will be 1 year old on Mar 31, got them on the last day of the 35k offer.

I got a promotion like this one a few months ago on one our SPG cards, and they gave you another 5,000 points for an extra $5K. I happened to have a bill large enough to cover that, so 10,000 SPG points was a nice surprise.

I’m not targeted. I got in on the same promotion a few months ago, so that’s probably why.

got the offer too. I renewed my card two months ago, so definitely not offered near renewal. this is bit of meh offer as I don’t really have any organic spend that I need to put on SPG. probably gonna have to pass this.

Did this about 6 months ago. Underwhelming really. If you have a 2% cash back card, the 10,000 points are costing you $100 in opportunity costs. Depends how much you value SPG points. They are valuable but if you have the opportunity to do $5,000 spend on a new credit card promo instead, then those 10,000 points won’t be worth going after.

Unless you stay at Marriott hotels a lot and value Marriott points… I’m able to consistently redeem them at 1 cpp or higher, so that’s essentially a 6% return for me… not too bad.

Most people value SPG points very highly. People MS on the SPG card for 1 pt / $, and would kill to get 2 pts / $, even for a limited time.
