4x eBay Bucks – Get yourself Targeted! + 2.5% with TCB + What to Buy

The Offer

Direct Link

eBay sent out another 4x Bucks offer today.

  • Get 4x eBay Bucks, or 8% back, on all purchases $50 or more.

The Fine Print

  • Valid Feb. 25 and 26th
  • Must activate offer first to get the credit
  • Multiple small items of the same SKU will combine to meet the $50 threshold and trigger the bonus Bucks
  • Max $100 per transaction, max $500 total per quarter; more details on Bucks offers here

Get yourself Targeted

What I found amazing about this offer  is that I didn’t get targeted for this, not via email nor eBay messages. And yet I was able to add the offer to my account using the Direct Link shown above (which I found on Slickdeals), and I successfully earned the 8% back on my purchases today.

I don’t recall this being the case in the past that it’s possible to get yourself targeted, although I usually do get the emails, so I’m not entirely positive. We’ll have to keep this in mind for the future to see if we can always get ourselves targeted.

[Update: Looks like the emails were just delayed today, so it probably won’t work to get yourself targeted if the future.]

What to Buy

If you got the offer, there are a bunch of gift card deals that we wrote about yesterday which become a lot more attractive. Most are still around; only the Southwest sold out already, and the Cabela’s and CVS are almost gone as well.

Link to all gift cards on sale

  • $100 Southwest e-gift card for $90 from PPDG (gets 5x with INK), limit 5
  • $50 Cabela’s e-gift card for $40 from PPDG (gets 5x with INK), limit 5
  • $50 Exxon or Speedway gift card for $47 from SVM, limit 4 of each

  • $25 Steak N Shake for $20
  • $50 AMC e-gift card for $40 from PPDG (gets 5x with INK)
  • $50 Domino’s + bonus $10 eBay gift card for $50 from PPDG (gets 5x with INK)
  • 5% off Applebee’s gift cards

Also, see our List of Best Options for Full-Price Gift Cards on eBay if you want to purchase full-price gift cards to places like Target, Lowe’s, Home Depot, gas, and many more.

Shopping Portal

Topcashback is offering a bonus rate of 2.5%, today (2/25) only. Or use iConsumer for 3% if you haven’t yet maxed out your $20 limit. (Note that iConsumer officially excluded gift cards in the terms.)

Other portal options here.

Our Verdict

I’m excited about being able to get myself targeted for this Bucks offer, let’s hope that will work for future offers as well. 8% isn’t the best that it gets, but the 10% offers are few and far between, and we also have a good 2.5% portal rate today and some nice gift card deals as well. Overall a great deal.

My wife’s account gets all of them, I get none. Makes no sense. Her account is also much newer (created last year vs mine which was create in 2002).

Best place to buy GCs is at a home office store with ink plus or Target with redcard. Easy 5% cashback. I would avoid online purchases at staples though, they take multiple days to email them. Target just took a few hours last time I did an online purchase. If I need to use the card quickly I just go to a physical store and get the 20-500 variable load ones.

Another thing when buying new GCs, is you have to wait about 3-4 hours for them to be usable on eBay for some reason so don’t do it for deals that are going OOS quickly. Or just buy in advance.

I am not able to use ebay gift cards for purchases of other gift cards, I am sure I am well within limits of ebay gc usage. Any suggestions?

Looks like I’m just not going to be targetted at all this year. Time to liquidate my remaining ebay gc’s and forget about ebay for the near future.

Of course I just bought $300 worth of Target and Dominoes GCs on eBay 3 days ago and now find out that iconsumer alters terms to deny payout on GC orders. Must explain why I haven’t gotten my usual email notifications from them.

I have multiple cards, like the gas cards, show up as RED and not going through final checkout. No idea what’s going on.

The past week I haven’t been able to see the link to see my ebay bucks balance… anyone have a reliable direct link? I bought 900 worth of Target GC’s back during the 5x bonus and I can’t confirm it.

Is anybody else only seeing standard eBay Bucks for the Cabela’s GCs?

I changed my email address and no more ebay bucks 🙁

I had the error with Cabella’s cards when trying to buy 5.
Went to 4 and it let me process fine.

I think people trying to “get targeted” for eBay bucks is just a witch hunt. So far I have not seen a legitimate way to get the offer emails. You either do get them or you don’t, I don’t think you can do anything about it.

Extreme newbie question: What do you do with ebay bucks? i.e. Let’s say I want to buy gift cards to resell so I can meet my spend requirements for a credit card. How can I best make use of eBay bucks? Hope this makes sense. If this is covered somewhere in this blog, please direct me to it.

When you buy anything from eBay you should receive 4 things.

1. The item you bought
2. eBay bucks which is usually 2% and now 8%. eBay bucks come in form of a eBay certificate that you can use to buy anything on eBay. Earning periods are Jan-Mar, Apr-Jun, … and burn periods are Apr, Jul, Sep and Jan. These certificate expire in one month.
3. portal cash back currently around 2% but historically can be as high as 5%
4. credit card points.

Now your item can be a gift card or anything. If that you can buy that item lower than what you can sell considering 2-3-4 then you gain otherwise you lose. You can specially do well when the item is on sale or discounted.
