Companion Fare Details

From year two onwards you also receive a companion fare, but you must pay $99 and taxes and fees. There are some rules to keep in mind for the companion ticket:

  • Can be used towards one round-trip coach fare on Alaska Airlines or Virgin America
  • Must purchase a paid (e.g no award tickets allowed) published coach airfare on the same itinerary booked at the same time
  • Must be booked on alaskaair.com
  • Code is automatically applied to the primary cardholders Alaska Airlines My account profile

Our Verdict

The previous offer was already one of the best credit card sign up bonuses and it’s only gotten better with this addition. Bank of America has matched bonuses in the past, so if you’ve recently applied and want this new free companion ticket it’s worth asking (most people haven’t had luck getting this particular bonus matched). Before applying for this or any other Bank of America card, I’d recommend reading this post detailing everything you should know about their credit cards. They have also be limiting some people to a maximum of four cards recently.

The link no longer works, but if you do a dummy booking it works. I just got it.

How many inquiries do you have in 6/12/24 if you don’t mind me asking. When I applied I was 6 in 6 months with all three bureaus. 23/24 with Exp, 12/24 Equifax, and 7/24 with Trans. Looks like they pulled Experian AND Trans, but I was denied. 🙁

Went pending. Just checked app status and it was denied.
I have a BOA Rewards card and checking account.
2 inquiries in six months, 22/24. This would be my 3rd card in 12mo with boa. All credit bureaus I have above 760.
What gives?

“Too many inquiries in the last 12 months (13/12).”
He wouldn’t tell me how many inquiries is their limit. He said he didn’t know, but apparently he knew mine was too high. I told him that I had three inquiries from my mortgage, one for my refinancing of student loans, one from the new car I bought, and I spoke about my credit score/credit utilization etc. He didn’t care and only cared about the low impact scoring of the inquiries.
“At this time we’re not able to provide you with any additional credit.” blah blah blah. I had both Alaskan cards back in January but I canceled them so I could reapply in August.
He did say, “I see you apply for multiple credit cards at a time in order to get only one inquiry.”
BOA might be cracking down too or maybe they’ve always done this. I’m canceling my bank account and BOA Premium Rewards when my AF is due. I hate this bank.

Is it this:
“There is a new rule from Bank of America whereby they’ll only approve you for at most two cards per rolling 2 months, three cards per rolling 12 months, and four cards per rolling 24 months. Let’s call this the ‘2/3/4 rule‘.”

Me too. It seems they deny me for alaskan because of too many inquiries. There’s no need to bank with this bank.

JP I think that it is YMMV in OR for my Biz app they pulled TU (5/18), but for personal (8/17) and wife (7/18) they pulled EXP.
https://www.bankofamerica.com/smallbusiness/credit-cards/products/alaska-airlines-business-credit-card/

DP
Had to call Biz recon because TU was Frozen – unfroze while on phone, then was grilled about my business, income, for about 10-15min.

3/24 (only TU HP were for Mortgage last July and 11/16) TU 797 FICO8 three year profitable biz, 5 figures in BofA Biz Checking -still had to open a $1,500 CD for a secured biz card and PG).

Alaska card is valuable to us as PDX is a major Alaska hub – so worth a 5/24 personal slot to us.

There is also a business version of this card. Do you recommend that card as well? That would not count against me for Chase’s 5/24 right?

William Charles I have both Business has the same 30K miles and $121 annual companion ticket sans $100 statement credit; even for secured Biz card $1,500 CD (Secured business cards even those with 800+ FICO’s and a PG Grrrr)

I have Alaska personal as well as business cards. All new cards issued now charge $75 AF (Biz level earning plan is $50+$25 )

Here is the BofA Business specifics
https://www.bankofamerica.com/smallbusiness/credit-cards/products/alaska-airlines-business-credit-card/

Player #2 who is 3/24 and 2/12 (HP) with 20+ yr prior BofA relationship and Mtg but no CC, +800 FICO’s was not an Instant Approval and went to Review status for 2 days but approved – she applied during process of actual booking of Alaska Int’l Flight (kill a few birds one app, MSR for $100 and 30k).

Not sure what BofA is thinking but its this type garbage is why we pulled all money out of ML and BofA after almost 21 years, when they would only approve me (similar situation to P#2) last summer for a $3,500 Pt Alaska Card (one off the lowest CL I’ve been offered since my 20’s.
