Our Verdict

All of these deals are excellent, and I believe it’s the best we’ve ever seen. Be sure to double-check that you’re getting the exact version you want. Also note, there are free tax software options available which will be enough for some people.

A reader tells us that a digital TurboTax purchase will work to trigger this AmEx Offer deal for $5 back on digital products from Amazon.

  • The Turbotax deal is back at Amazon. I was able to get the Home & Business 2024 plus the $10 Amazon gift card for $75.99+tax. Was not able to complete purchase with Amazon gift card balance since the bundle includes a gift card, but still a solid deal.

Note: Turbotax does not have a CD version anyone. You get a code key that lets you download the software from Intuit to install on your computer. If desired, you can burn your own CD or save the install file to USB stick.

If you really really want an official CD from Intuit, you can buy one AFTER you purchase the download version. The CD costs $10. https://turbotax.intuit.com/lp/ttd/4021/

You still need the code key to use it. I don't know why anyone would buy the CD when you can just make your own copy on a USB stick.

  • Any good deals for 2024? Looks like there was a Black Friday/Cyber Monday deal for $45 for Deluxe+State on Amazon. On Costco, there is a Deluxe+State+$10 in-product credit for $56.

    • I waited to see if Amazon was going to run their typical end of year sale. It looks like they aren't running it this year.

    • Chase has $20 off $39 on all of my 7 cards which previously worked with efiling fee for me + a 10% off link.
My amex AU has $20 off $50 with the link specified in the details
My biz amex has $30 off $150
      haven't checked portal offers

i picked up the app on amz during BF and plan to use the $20 chase credit on filing

  • Just for future reference, using this feels like stepping back in time 20 years. It is desktop software installed on your computer and has the same look and feel that TT had 20 years ago. It still works, and you save some money getting a deal like this, but it is not very streamlined to use. I assume it got me the best refund, but not totally convinced on that.

  • I’m shocked that so many people here prefer TurboTax over FreeTaxUSA, which is a much more affordable and popular option among users in the FIRE community on Reddit. It’s like $15 to e-file state taxes. Don’t give these Turbofucks any of your money! If they die, they die.

    • I much prefer FreeTaxUSA to TurboTax. Many people just don't know how good FreeTaxUSA is (or how pretentious TurboTax is). I used TurboTax in the past. It's not worth. Even if TurboTax was free, I'd use FreeTaxUSA. TurboTax is restrictive in many ways so that users are tied to it and pressed for its more expensive versions.

    • I'm shocked that people take airplanes, when you can just take Greyhound for cheaper. Virtually everything in the world has a cheaper alternative, you usually end up paying with the extra time it takes or the inferior quality of the item.

      • Snark aside, it's not an equivalent example. freetaxusa is not an inferior good for the core user need.

      • For me personally, I prefer FreeTaxUSA over TurboTax. I would assume a lot of people instinctively use TurboTax since it is kind of the default option when it comes to filing taxes. I used to as well but switched over to FreeTaxUSA a few years back.

        • Indeed. Freetaxusa can sound too good to be true given the name and relatively simple marketing site. However it's actually an extremely impressive product from a small Utah based company.

      • I've used both, FreeTaxUSA is much better and easier to use. TurboTax is the inferior product. Given that this website is typically visited by financially smart people, nobody here should be using TurboTax. Maybe that doesn't describe you.

      • Bad example. Freetaxusa is a quality product and takes the same amount of time to fill out as TurboTax.

  • Currently using free TurboTax Premier from Fidelity for trading options for a huge loss.
