American Express Adds Centurion Lounges Capacity Checker

American Express has added a new feature to the ‘Find An Airport Lounge’ section of the American Express app. Users can now see how busy centurion lounges are, with one of the following displayed:

  • Not busy
  • A little busy
  • Very busy
  • Almost full

Almost full is really ‘full’ and you’ll most likely be put on a wait list when you arrive at lounge reception. I guess saying almost full on the app sounds better than having it displayed as full. Either way this is a nice feature and can save a long walk if a lounge is already at or nearing capacity.

  • Swear I've had this option for close to a year if not more. I want to say I first read about it on DoC.

  • The Centurion Lounge has been completely useless to me this year. Tried 4 times this year (3 x MIA and 1x SEA) and full every time, so I went to the Admiral's Club that I'm also a member of. It really makes me question my Platinum card, very frustrating. This will at least save me the walk over I guess.

    • Just arrive EARLY. I went to SFO on a Sunday this month. Arrived at 6:15am. By 6:50am workers were placing "seat blocked for social distancing" signs. By the time I exited at 7:25 there was a line of about 20 people at the door. I don't know how many were waiting to get on a list or checking in.

    • Flew 15 times this year with 6 times (CLT, SFO, DFW, DEN, LAS) going through an airport with Centurion lounge - made it 6/6 and no wait at all. I think it really depends on your flight time and try to avoid peak hours

  • Is there a way to see this if you don't have your own card that grants Centurion Lounge access? I get in using an AU card on someone else's account, so I don't have online access for that card.

    • It is "your" card even if you're an AU on someone else's and you will be able to create an online login/account. Unless you're in fact using someone else's card...

    • What do you mean? Is the AU card in your name? If so, you can setup an online account for it. (At least for the consumer version.)

      • So derp, for some reason I thought you couldn't create a login for an AU card, just for your own cards. I assume this has to be separate from the login for my own cards and that I can't just add it to my regular login?

  • As others have posted, this is not brand new. I have been able to get in immediately when it says "Almost Full."

    • On top of that it usually says "almost full" for me and often it will be like ~25% of capacity if you were to just go by seating.

  • Uh, this feature has been around forever. Just because that hack TPG posts about it, doesn't make it new.
