Our Verdict

This is the highest public bonus we’ve seen on this card, it matches what the launch bonus was. There was an offer for a $700 statement credit that was targeted, but that did require a larger spend requirement of $15,000. Keep in mind that American Express bonuses are once per lifetime. There is also additional restrictions based on what Marriott cards you’ve had in the last 24 months. American Express has also updated the terms for the $300 resort credit as well. This can be a good offer for some people, but just keep in mind the massive annual fee. I’d make sure you have a good plan for the Marriott points and resort credit before signing up. We will add this to our best credit card bonus post.

I would really appreciate if you can advise me on my eligibility for promotion Bonus.

I currently have Chase Marriott personal and Chase Marriott Business card; for both I receive bonus more than 24 months ago.

Considering this would I qualify for the bonus?

FYI – P2 received an upgrade offer today to go from regular Amex Bonvoy to Brilliant. Offer link was under the “Useful Links” section on the online account (right/middle of page) and the link just read “Upgrade and Enjoy Extra Points.” Clicking on the link revealed upgrade offer with same terms (100K points for $5K spend in 3 months). Prior to this, P2 had only been receiving the 50K for $2K spend offer under the Amex offers section. I guess being patient paid dividends.

Man, I’ve been waiting for this offer to apply for this card so I could complete my Amex Bonvoys and move on to Chase in two years. But now with coronavirus, I don’t think P2 wants to do much traveling. And the constant Bonvoy devals, this seems less enticing. Not to mention it’ll put me at 4/24. Lots of thinking to do before 4/8…

Anyone make the switch from Chase to Amex on the Marriott cards? I’d be down for the bonus, even if I’m getting slightly Bonvoy’d with the devaluations. It’s been two years since my last bonus from them, including “upgrade” bonuses. Otherwise, is it a mere 90 day waiting period between closing Chase and opening the Amex Marriott for eligibility? I definitely spend the $300+ per year and would like to not have to worry about earning Gold at least.

Anything useful for the Marriott credit besides stays/room service?

i presume it works for hotel restaurants charged to your room number and paid for with the card. That would have to be the case for me before I get this card.

yes, the credit also works if you use it at a Marriott restaurant even if you’re not staying there (discovered that by accident, but ymmv)

Yeah might not open for the rest of the year. This offer will come back around. Seems a bad time to get it. And there will be further devaluations before you can spend your points.

Just curious do people still want Amex cards that involve giving credits, especially when the card partners with another bank…God knows what nightmare Amex will be creating in the future

Has the Elite Night maximum changed too? My updated T & C say you can earn 15 Nights from a consumer card AND 15 Nights from a business card for a total of 30 per account. Not a huge deal for most but big for someone close to the edge of the next tier.

I believe you’re correct and that’s a recent update. I have both biz and personal Marriott cards and currently have gold elite status

Good grief, that list of exclusions for all the previous cards that make you ineligible is ridiculously cumbersome. Leave it to Marriott to screw up everything they touch
