Original post below:

Not sure if this is new, or how new this is but the American Express Business Platinum page is showing the new metal design for the card. I also have no idea if this means that American Express are shipping metal cards to new cardholders or not and what the roll out will be for existing cardholders. Although I don’t see why they would add the new design to the site if they didn’t plan to roll it out soon/immediately.

Hopefully they don’t run out of metal business cards when it does become available. Also just a reminder that you can get 100,000 point bonuses on both the personal and business versions of this card currently.

My wife just got her card in the mail, and it was metal.

What blows my mind is that is shows she gets the first year AF waived on a 75000 point bonus offer.

Why didn’t I get that?!?

Ours came in a grey card box, no phone holder.

But hell, since the first year AF is waived I am not gonna complain about it.

The annual fee for Amex Business Platinum IS NOT waived. You will be billed $450 on your first statement.

Regarding “Existing cardholders can request a new card (log in, click account services and then ‘Request Metal Card”.

You actually need to log in, click Account Services tab, click Order a Replacement Card for Damaged, Lost, or Stolen Cards, select the primary business card, and then select Request Metal Card (Your Card will be reissued and you can continue using your existing Card until the metal replacement arrives.)

The inner post-Millenial in me is just dying for another metal card to stick it to the Man and show everyone that even though I still live in mom’s basement, I have a very priveledged metal card that I can use when I eat out every meal.

i agree. and thats how i impress the upper class hotties at strip clubs. they always give me so much attn when i bust out my solid hard metal cards. it works like a charm. they probably realize that i am man with exquisite taste. it also helps to clean out MSR easily and RAT would never know what I did there since L3 data is not available. even if it was, i dont see anything excluding those activities in the T&Cs. my only concern is when i visit Simon’s Gentlemens Club, they may clawback my points by mistake. i am not sure how to explain that gift cards were not purchased there and all the high dollar volume was legitimate spend.

I like the new design because it doesn’t have the EMV chip cutting into the Centurion design. Then again it looks too much like the personal Card. I’d like to see the design changes on the other Amex Biz Cards. Thoughts?

It doesn’t even matter that it’s metal considering the airline credit is even more useless now that gift cards purchases from airlines are not getting reimbursed.

Seems to be. I’m kind of surprised none of the blogs (affiliate and non-affiliate )have talked about it. I only found out about it when after a week my Hawaiian airline GC purchase was not reimbursed. I searched flyertalk and found out that Alaska, Delta, Hawaiian seems to be not getting reimbursed.

Link for Alaska discussion: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/american-express-membership-rewards/1300459-airline-fee-200-100-reimbursement-reports-only-32.html

Haven’t tested paying with GC for the fare and then paying the rest with the Plat card. Hawaiian is my selected airline and no immediate need to fly until November, so won’t book till October. I’m assuming taxes and on board spend (meals, etc) will still get reimbursed. Just not gift cards.

Just an update: I received reimbursement on my Delta gc purchase so it still works for Delta at least (8/20)

And I called to see if I can get a plastic card instead of metal one, but they said they cant do that.

Just got new card 8/8 and it was plastic. I asked about metal and rep said about 1 to 2 months, but no mention of benefit changes. I just wanted the 100K points offered.
