American Express is making a number of changes:
- Updates to Membership Rewards® Program. Effective March 31, 2025, Card Members will no longer be able to redeem Membership Rewards points on www.newegg.com and www.staples.com.
- ShopRunner Card Benefit Removal. Effective March 31, 2025, ShopRunner membership will no longer be a Card benefit. Card Members currently enrolled through American Express will continue to receive their complimentary ShopRunner membership for the remainder of their ShopRunner membership year and two years thereafter, subject to ShopRunner’s policies and terms and conditions.
- Information about the American Express Auto Purchasing Program. Effective April 28, 2025, the American Express Auto Purchasing Program will be decommissioned and no longer available as a benefit for Card Members. Any offers, including any upfront price offers, available through the American Express Auto Purchasing Program will expire on their stated end date.
Our Verdict
The Staples/Newegg partnership was never useful due to the poor redemption rate. ShopRunner will still run for another two years effectively.

Shoprunner was a nice benefit, and I didn't use it that often but was a good to have when needed. I admit, as the years went by there were more and more exclusions from stores for what was qualified for Shoprunner and what was not. I definitely value Shoprunner more than the ridiculous junk food credits.
And nothing of value was lost

That's it. I can take the crappy coupons Amex but taking away my shoprunner is the last straw. I'm done man, cancelling all my cards tomorrow.

I use Shoprunner with Neiman Marcus and it results in free and faster shipping.
Shoprunner was useful when you could use it with Saks, but it is gone
