Our Verdict

We’ve just seen American Express increased the annual fee to $695 from $550 and add some new benefits to the card. The two advantages of this offer over the standard new 125,000 Amex Platinum signup offer are:

  • Signup bonus via the Resy link shows 125,000 consistently versus the standard link which is YMMV.
  • 15x at restaurants and small businesses instead of 10x.

The extra 5x could be significant – up to an extra 125,000 points if you hit the $25,000 spend max. You’ll obviously want to apply via the Resy link. Only other option to consider would be if you are in 2-player-mode and you have a referral link with 125,000 + 45,000 + 4x restaurants/small which some may prefer.

Does anyone know if there was a RSVP or POID number for either the Resy 125,000 Points +15x shop small offer or the Amex Platinum 125,000 Points + 10x Shop Small offer (maybe on the original application)? And what that number was?

Has anyone used Fluz (mentioned in the article) and had their Fluz gift card purchase code as Shop Small?

Has this offer changed? I’m only seeing “10x points at restaurants worldwide on up to $25,000” on the Platinum in addition to the 125,000 points.

Has anyone found a Home Depot, Lowe’s, Supermarket, Best, Buy, amazon E-bay, or any chain store, etc. to spend the $25,000 under Shopsmall?

l also don’t know where you find all these car dealers because, in my area, and I am in big metropolitan area, I have only found couple car dealers, say a Toyota one, and even that only at a particular location. Why would a Toyota dealer in a particular location be recorded under the smallshop list but not the other Toyota dealers in the same city? It seems 90% of the businesses in the small shop list are small vendors, at most restaurants, where you could not realistically spend $25,000 in 5-6 months. Any ideas?

It depends on who owns the dealers. Many dealers are owned by companies that own many dealers and no longer quality for shop small.

Has anyone been buying GCs at a supermarket listed as eligible for Shop Small at Amex? V/MC or other (Home Depot, Disney, etc.)? Thanks.

Has anyone discovered a ‘”Shop Small” merchant that typically has variable load $20 – 500 GCs in stock, to maximize the 15X MS at these type stores?

Usually only supermarkets sell any Visa / MC GCs, and the ones to qualify for “shop small” status only sell the $50 or $100 value.

When AmEx says 6 months to hit SUB what exactly do they mean? Approval date month +6, 183 days or something similar?

It depends on the card, some credit card issuers say 6 months, so if you got approved on 1/17/2022, the final date would be 7/16/2022 and some would say specifically 183 days. It is almost always from the date of approval because that is a fixed, know to both sides, date, and not the date of card receipt or the card activation because they are subjective. This will not give one a full 6 months or 183 days but, credit card issuers have factored that in when they made the offer, so 183 days or 93 days or 6 months has factored in 5-21 days that may take for the card to arrive. In some rare cases, I have seen some credit card issuers can give a grace period to complete spending of, say 100 days that would effectively equate to 3 months when you consider mailing time. In the case of this card, it is 183 days, it’s in terms and conditions.

Approved for the Resy Platinum with 15x points on July 9, 2021. Just got bonus points for a dining purchase from Jan. 14, 2022 = 189 days from approval. Hoping it runs through end of the month.

After getting denied by Citi and Capitol One, I got instant approved for this card. I’ll post spend and bonus DPs when I finish this card.

Do you have an article/articles about “best credit cards for scores of XXX”? I’m looking for the best credit card options for my score (680-710). Thanks.

Also, it would be great if you put the minimum credit score range for each card, to give a clearer idea if a card is appropriate to apply for or not. Thanks
