American Express Platinum Cards Typo Showing $0 Annual Fee In Paperwork

Many are reporting seeing a $0 annual fee showing in the physical card disclosures that come with various American Express cards: Platinum, Schwab Platinum, Business Platinum. This is happening with many recent applications and has apparently been happening for a number of months as well.

To be clear, on the application the fee was properly disclosed, it’s just in the paperwork coming with the card that there’s an apparent typo with “None” for the annual fee.

People have been getting charged the fee, despite the paperwork. Some report that in the past this type of thing has been honored, but for now at least the fee charges are coming through regularly.

  • Not Plat, but I haven't been charged the $95 annual fee on my amex EDP. DM'd yesterday, they said the annual fee date was 3/25, but showed $0 AF. I have upgraded/downgraded this card every year for the bonus for several years. I do vaguely remember the paperwork saying $0 AF when I upgraded last year, but I did still pay the pro-rated AF for 2024.

  • I chatted with Amex last night about 0 fees and they have created a backend case for me and told me to chat back in 5-7 business days. It’s a waiting game to see the outcome. Not hopefully, but playing along at the moment.

  • Would be funny if they did this on purpose just to entice all the Chase Sapphire holders to make the jump.

  • Seeing $0 for the platinum card as well. Any chance they would refund $695, which was charged not so long ago?

  • My New agreement says “ None; however, as you have been previously notified, your Annual Membership Fee will be $695 as of June 05, 2025.”

      • When upgraded, I got it around april 20th with my plat card. I requested a new digital today with the no af wording.

      • I upgraded my gold to a platinum. It should be due soon lol! I upgraded april 17th and haven’t been charged yet.

Edit: I’m calling Customer Service cuz they shut down all the chats to see if they can waive the annual fee.

        • Edit: The CSR was feisty, and sounded like he’s gone thru this multiple times. He reiterated multiple times it’ll be $695 and at few moments when pressed. He started shouted at me. I requested a senior rep and she requested I send over the card member agreement pdf and they’ll take a look.

          • Sent an email with a document center url where I can submit files. Similar to the portal where you submit documents for chargebacks and insurance claims with amex.

  • It’s probably for the best my new card agreement has the correct AF, because I’m the kind of idiot who wouldn’t feel entitled to have a clear mistake I didn’t rely on enforced, but also would be mad that my refusal to act in bad faith cost me $695.

    • I know how you feel as it would be easier in this "game" if we didn't have a conscience. 😉
