Barclay Arrival+ 60,000 Point Sign Up Bonus Now Live [Annual Fee Now Waived First Year]

Update: There is now a 70k offer, more details here.

Update 09/24/18: The annual fee on this offer is now waived first year. If you signed up for the previous offer it’s unfortunately highly unlikely they will waive the annual fee retrospectively. If you try then let us know.

The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • Signup for the Barclay Arrival Plus World Elite Mastercard and get 60,000 bonus points after spending $5,000 within 90 days.
  • $89 annual fee is waived the first year.

Card Details

  • $89 annual fee, waived first year
  • No foreign transaction fee
  • Points are worth $.01 per point when redeemed for travel (which makes the 60k signup bonus worth $600)
  • Double points on all purchases (effective earning rate of 2.1% back on all purchases)
  • There’s also a 5% bonus after redeeming points (redeem 60,000 points and get 3,000 points bonus, for example)

Our Verdict

This was supposed to go live on July 1st, not sure what the delay was. This is the highest bonus we’ve seen on the card, but previous offers were 50,000 points after $3,000 in spend with the $89 annual fee waived. Now that the annual fee on this offer is waived it’s much better than that previous offer. It wasn’t clear if the Arrival+ would survive after they introduced the Arrival Premier. To say that card had a lukewarm reception when launched would be generous, so I wonder if that played a part in Barclays bringing back this card & offer. You can also get the sign up bonus on this card if you’ve had it before. Generally with Barclays as long as you’re approved you’ll get the bonus, it’s just getting approved that’s the issue. I’ll be adding this to our list of the best credit card bonuses.

IMPORTANT: Last we know, Barclay’s has a 6/24 rule on the Arrival+ card. It may not be a hard rule and it’s possible something changes since then, but it affected most people who tried applying last time around. It’s worth reading 26 Things You Should Know About Barclaycard Credit Cards before applying.

DP: I signed up in September and paid the AF. I called after it changed to waived and got $89 credited on my first statement.

DP: Currently 4/24; applied a couple days ago and the application went pending. I immediately checked the status online and saw a denial. Took to the recon-line and asked about my denial. CSR claimed that I did not have a long enough credit history. She asked to review my profile and then asked questions about my income, occupation, and other details. Approved.

DP: Denied instantly. 6/24 according to rejection letter. Letter gives credit score of 755. Called recon, said there’s nothing they can do. Semi-exact wording: “You were denied because of too many new credit accounts, so unfortunately I can’t do anything about that reason.” I did ask, to be thorough, if AU cards count for 6/24 and was told they do. Never had a Barclays card.

called reconsideration dept. after a denial, was told the reason is 8/24 within 24 mos even though only 1 card was opened for 2018 & a current credit score of 810

wonder if it could be reviewed & approved if calling immediately after the appl indicated pending after applying?

Weird stuff: 8/24, went pending, *approved* after calling direct reconsideration line (866 408 4064)
BUT I somehow got it approved even though they apparently they didn’t do credit pull at all. Had my Experian/Equifax already frozen, since Barclay checks Transunion, and just got an email from TrueIdentity that my Transunion was ALSO locked and there had been an attempt to check it. I had completely forgotten to unlock it before applying.
I opened the Barclay AAdvantage Red MC about 2 months ago, so best I can tell they must have just reused that old report. And if so, that one would’ve shown 6/24.
During reconsideration call I was asked to confirm income amount and employer, and asked why I had opened 4 cards within the *last year*
Explained I had already closed two of those four because they weren’t meeting my needs.
Guess I lucked out!

**update** apparently my Equifax lock wasn’t in effect. So,
Datapoint: 8/24, approved after calling recon, BarclayCard checks Transunion + Equifax. Probably the latter primarily if Transunion is frozen, as mine was, as my other Barclay CC opened in August had no Equifax pull.

I have the jetblue card about 10 months, they still asked me some documents for verification and must be sent by regular mail.

Approved end of August $89 fee posted and paid. Called in first week October to be matched and CR after a hold said OK but would take up to 60 days to get a refund and gave me a case #. I’m not 100% convinced yet but we’ll see.
