Our Verdict

Standard offer is 10% back, it’s now up to 15% (apparently unlimited earn).

The card often has spend bonuses throughout the year which is another reason some people find it worth getting/keeping. Some people get each quarter a 5% cash back chosen category, up to $75 back, on either travel, wholesale, utilities, home improvement, grocery, dining, gas, or clothing.

  • I have a couple of questions:

    1. Is this card churnable? For instance, if I were to open it today, make my purchases, and close it after receiving the rewards, would I still be eligible for similar offers in the future?
    2. If I make a $1,000 purchase and receive $200 back, can the reward be redeemed as a Best Buy gift card, or does it need to be applied directly toward the purchase of an actual item?
  • I spent $1800 during Cyber Monday. Can I call them to get that transaction switched over to this card?

  • I want to do it but it is Shitty bank. There is a high chance Citi will block my card on the first/second purchase and force me to wait for the snail mail with verification code on it 🤣.

    • I had something similar happen with my first Citi Strata. I waited probably 2 weeks just to receive it, and on the first purchase it got blocked. Fraud department said that my phone wasn't eligible to receive verification texts, I couldn't do anything not even close the account till I received the snail mail letter, but then suddenly they stated that my wife's phone could receive verification texts and they unblocked my card once I could verify the code they sent her. The annoying part is that she isn't involved in the account at all, she isn't an AU,I could have literally given any number lol. Whole thing took like 2 hours on the phone.

Whole thing makes me very hesitant to get any more cards with them.

  • Also forgot to mention that the card has everyday 3% cash back on gas, 2% on grocery/dining/takeout and 1% everything else.

Apparently, there are no foreign transaction fees. I did not know this. That's good to know.

  • How is Best Buy still in business?

Like, any day now… vulture capital firms loading them up with debt like Red Lobster, Toys-R-Us, and Bed, Bath & Beyond.

We get it, most of it’s on Amazon anyway.

    • @guest_1892346 They've diversified their products adding home goods and appliances - if they add groceries and car parts they'll be just like Target and Walmart. They also utilize their stores like fulfillment centers. And they don't sell much Chinese crap replicas, it's all quality stuff you can trust.

    • Because they still offer top brands. That’s what did Bed Bath and Beyond, Sears and similar businesses in - they realized they could get a better margin by offering crappy private labeled products from China and nixing expensive contracts with top brands. It worked briefly until everyone realized they could buy the same cheap crap from Amazon for cheaper. As sales and margins fell, it was a death spiral of awful management decisions.

Best Buy still makes great money and is a very profitable company, they just aren’t and won’t grow because of what they sell. They also don’t have any real competitors.

    • Same as usual, choose the product, type in your cc, follow the website instructions and complete the purchase.
