Best Way To Signup for Chase Sapphire Preferred 100,000 Points Signup Bonus Offer

You probably heard that the Chase Sapphire Preferred card is now offering 100,000 points signup bonus for new cardholders who sign up and spend $5,000 within 3 months.

Initially the offer was only available in Chase branches, and today it became available online as well. No one knows how long the offer will last, but I’d guess it’ll stick around for at least a month and hopefully longer.

The question on everyone’s mind: will this offer become available via referral links? That would spruce up the offer for those in 2-player mode as your spouse/friend can refer you and they’ll get 10,000 bonus points as well.

Unfortunately no one knows for certain whether the 100k offer will become available via referral. The Reddit rumors are saying referrals it will happen on April 8th. We’ll see. (Update: one reader says they heard the April 8th date from a Chase phone rep.)

The good news is that we’ve already heard multiple reports of Chase being willing to match the 100,000 points offer. It takes a simple request via Secure Message and they’ll apply the match.

I’d be pretty confident in applying via referral link and then doing the match. That said, for added security, I’ll wait around for a couple of weeks to see if the referral link becomes available directly.

Reminder, Chase Sapphire Preferred and Sapphire Reserve are part of the same referral family. If your friend/spouse has either card they can refer you to apply for the Sapphire Preferred.

If you don’t have any Chase Sapphire card, this is a great offer to consider. If you do, you can product change the card to become a Freedom card, then wait 2-4 days, and then apply for this offer. Just remember, the signup bonus offer is only for those who have not gotten any Sapphire card bonus within the last 48 months.

  • As I have a CSP, can i refer my spouse for one, and after spouse's CSP gets approved (presuming they get the referral 100k otherwise they will not use my referral link), then downgrade my CSP (my renewal is this month for the third year) to one of the freedom cards? Or is it a no no to refer a spouse and then downgrade ones CSP card? I just dont see the point of paying two AFs. Thanks

  • Is the 48-month bonus limitation based on when the 2nd card is applied for or when the second bonus is received? i.e. I received my last CSP bonus in mid-June 2021, do I need to apply for the new CSP after mid-june or OK to apply earlier and then qualify for the new bonus after mid-june? Seems safer to wait to apply, but how long will this offer last?

  • Posted in another CSP 100k offer thread here as well. Thanks!

Hello, I applied 4/10 and got 7-10 days message on the automated line to check application status. Called and talked to them. They told me they couldn't verify my ID and asked me for documents to prove my DOB and Address. Did so and receipt was acknowledged by them. I was told they are pushing my application to the team for approval.

This was all done on the same day 04/10. After that, the next day, the automated 7-10 days message changed to 2 weeks. Called them on 04/14 after no approval email nor change in automated message. I was told that they had everything they needed and it was sent for approval, and to just wait till the end of this week "hopefully".

If anyone has any insight on how I could move forward with them to expedite approval and then the card, or do I just have to wait it out for snail mail? I have purchases that I wanted to put on the card to meet the SUB.

I believe applying through a work device with Zscaler/VPN may have been to blame for the 7-10 days message/denial at first. Not sure though. A possible DP for others.

  • I tried to refer my son to the Sapphire preferred via my Freedoms and then my Inks, but all he got was app to apply for Freedoms., No Sapphire. What did I do wrong?? TIA So you need to have this card for a referral, I do not. But thought I read that you can refer somebody to this card if you do not have it...Sorry...

  • What’s the best phone number and the best set of words or digits to navigate the phone tree to reach the reconsideration team?

  • My application is "under review". WTF, so annoying because Sapphire Preferred card is showing under my "You're already approved!" tab. Waiting for their written 7-10 days decision letter or whatever they call it. I'm pretty sure its been over 48 months since I had a sapphire bonus and definitely below 5/24. I only have 2 personal cards totaling a little over $40k available credit and 2 biz cards totaling $8k with Chase. Credit Score ~795, I think Chase hates me.

    • Some more details; App was in review for about 48 hours, applied Sunday the 6th, got decision letter on Tuesday the 8th. It was a DENIAL! LOL. They pulled Transunion, credit score: 845. "We based our decision on the following reason(s)" "High debt relative to income" Which is kind of fair, I have a 0% APR card that I am carrying a $20k balance on, $30K limit. (I have the balance earning interest on an high yield account). I can't believe Chase is worried about a little $20K balance, especially when my overall debt to available credit is less than 6%. What a joke. I'm not sure if it's worth calling in to recon. I'm going to pay off the balance in a couple months after the 0% APR expires, hopefully the 100k offer sticks around awhile.

  • Is there any advantage to applying in branch if you are likely to have to go to recon?

P2 currently has a CFU with a huge CL and 4 Inks. She does not need any more credit from Chase -- we would be perfectly content with some of the existing credit line being reallocated to the new CSP. I am concerned that she may get declined because Chase does not want to extend her any more credit, and she may need to go to recon. In that situation, is it better to apply in branch so that the banker can call recon for her, or does it not matter? (I don't have a CSP or CSR, so referral is not an issue.) Should I have her close one or two of the Inks preemptively?

      • @guest_2040171 I was concerned that lowering her consumer CL would drop her FICO. I assume you have not seen much of an impact as a result of your strategy?

        • I've never noticed my FICO score drop but honestly, I never thought about it. Chase seems to always give me large credit lines when I open an account so I usually request lowering to like 10k via SM. Most of the time I am doing it early on, but I've had to do P2 days before applying. No issues thus far.

  • I just downgraded my CSP to a Freedom card. Can someone please let me know exactly when I can apply for the CSP again for this SUB? Also - please send any links showing DPs or references for this so I can save/remember in the future 😂

    Thank you!

    • Oh and BTW I PC to the Freedom Flex Mastercard, so will this have any impact as well considering it's also changing from Visa to MC?

      • I just product switched to the Freedom Flex Mastercard as well. The customer service rep said that my old Chase Sapphire will remain open for 60 days, due to switching from Visa to Mastercard. Not sure how that impacts the timeline for applying for the CSP. Hopefully we didn't shoot ourselves in the foot (may have been a better idea to product switch to Freedom Rise...another Visa?)

        • Oh dang, yeah had I thought about it I might have just switched to the Visa instead .. dang I was really hoping to wait a week and apply. I am still going to apply Friday (that marks a week since I PC) and see what happens.

          • Let us know how it goes. Good luck! I wound up calling back and asking to switch the Flex out for the standard Freedom Visa. We'll see what happens - I'm going to apply for CSP next week.

          • @guest_2040481 Just curious if you applied yet this week? I hope you get approved! 😊

          • Hey Tyler, I applied this morning (10-day mark since product change)...instant approval! Thank goodness. Enjoy those 100K bonus points my friend!

          • I'm in this same situation. PC'd last Thursday to Flex and entered the Flex/CSP limbo. Was the PC'd CSP still showing on your accounts (inactive status) when you applied and were approved? Going to apply for new CSP later this week. Thanks!

          • So I just applied now and I was instantly aproved! I am so happy :) I called to product change to MasterCard Freedom last week 4/3 so today was the 7th calendar day. Also, I am right at 5/24 because I have an authorized user card showing up on my credit report so I am surprised I was instantly approved I thought I would have to call recon and explain one of my 5 accounts is an AU. Best of luck to you as well!

  • Here is dumb day, let see if anyone had similar.
I accidentally applied twice ( submitted two application for CSP due to my internet glitching). Both are pending review but CS is closed now.
Does Chase auto deny both due to my stupidity? I will try to call CS in AM but I am not holding my hopes up.
