Best Wyndham Properties To Use 15,000 Points For A Free Night

This post was originally made on May 11th, 2018. We are reposting and also including some data from our friends from Pointimize (prepared by AwardTravel). I’ve kept the old information below (that starts from ‘all inclusive properties’). Keep in mind a lot of that will be out of date, I’ll make changes as relevant. A couple of notes about the pointimize data:

  • 1. Search volume of Wyndham is much less than other hotel chains. Though we’ve excluded properties which have been searched less than 5 times, the prices of small samples could still be biased, more or less.
  • We use median value instead of average. So if users mostly make searches of a certain time (ex. weekend rather than weekdays, or summer than winter), the result could well reflect the peak season prices. This is particularly true here for the Caesars properties and Wyndham resorts/vacation properties.

Below are some ideas on what you might want to use your Wyndham Rewards points for. Booking the room which would cost you the most in cash is very rarely the best option, I always choose my hotels last. Pick the destination/activity first and then flights and then hotels, but this should give you some idea of what type of value you can get out of these Wyndham points. All Inclusive Properties

Wyndham has it’s own all inclusive brand called Viva Resorts, it’s possible to redeem 15,000 points for these properties which entitles you to two adults per room. You can see what’s included for each property with this handy chart.

At the moment there are six all inclusive properties that are available in the Dominican Republic, Mexico & The Bahamas. Personally all inclusive resorts aren’t my thing, but I know some of you will love them so here they are:

Dominican Republic

Mexico

  • Viva Wyndham Maya: 4/5 stars, #90 of 199 Hotels in Playa del Carmen.  Price range: $192 – $592
  • Viva Wyndham Azteca: 4/5 stars, #65 of 199 Hotels in Playa del Carmen. Price range: $211 – $621

The Bahamas

Readers Suggestions

I’d like to crowd source this list some what, have you stayed at any Wyndham properties in the past that you’d consider exceptional? Have you booked any that you think you’ll get great value of? If so let me know in the comments and I’ll add them here as well as their rating, # hotel in location and also their price range (all based on Tripadvisor information).

FYI, TRYP New York City Times Square South is now easier to book with points. It used to require booking over the phone, and a 2-night minimum (30k points), but now it can be booked online for stays as short as 1 night (15k points). I just booked a single night, a $400 value.

I would also recommend 1 bedroom Bali Hai Villas in Kauai, very nice property and location.

I just used 30k for two nights at the Silverado Resort and Spa in Napa. It’s great because I booked a suite online. The property is like a series of condos on a golf course right near fantastic wineries and downtown Napa. I had my own parking spot and a big cottage with a fireplace and full kitchen, all for 15k a night. If you are looking for a great redemption and want to visit Napa I think this is a excellent option.

I have recently discovered this with ALL the all inclusives. I have messaged them and plan to call tomorrow. It seems to be because they are no longer considering the Queen standard rooms “standard”. Only KING rooms are considered standard and available for points. The Wyndham in Grand Cayman has been like this for at least a year and it seems that the others have joined in. We have been saving points for a few years to do a family trip but it won’t be possible if this is all true. This is very VERY frustrating and will end my relationship with Wyndham as these are the properties at which we are most interested in redeeming our points. Did you ever discover if they will change this?

I did call. And it was a nightmare. I was transferred to no less than 6 people over the course of two hours because “that’s not my department” but no one seemed to know who’s “department” it was. The way they structure their program is different from every other hotel program that I know. I finally asked to be transferred back to wyndham rewards to speak to a high level supervisor. Apparently there are brands in their program that are allowed to control how reward points are used. Wyndham Rewards can’t neccessarily override these decisions. Viva Wyndham is one of these brands. Recently they decided to start charging for children (different amounts at each resort) and they also blocked all queen rooms. According to the supervisor who I spoke with (who seemed fairly knowledgeable) Wyndham Rewards can call and “ask” for the rewards member to be switched to a queen room because they want to bring two children but it’s not necessarily a guarantee. She didnt know if this would be a permenent change, but I imagine it will be. She recommended this: 1) Book a king room 2) email the hotel and ask to be switched to a standard queen room as they were all being blocked and I have 2 children 3) give them a week to respond 4) if they don’t respond call wyndham rewards and ask for a supervisor who will call the hotel and see if the transfer to a queen room can be done.
After this conversation I don’t have a lot of hope that I will be able to use my rewards points at these all inclusive for queen rooms in the long term future. Obviously, they are blocking them off to avoid having 4 people in a room on points and I’m not sure how much pull a rewards representative will have when they call. I guess it remains to be seen. Good Luck and report back if you have success! We are not ready to book for another 6 months.

Santa Monica at the Pier is where I use all of my points. Love that hotel and it’s often over $300/night (it is tonight). Making points worth $0.02+.

Second suggestion, the Alexander in Indianapolis Indiana. It is a Dolce property, rates number 9 of 197 in Indianapolis. Random date was $319 and it is a very nice unique property. Well worth 15k and deserves a mention too.

I have repeatedly gotten great value at the Wyndham Grand Riverfront in Chicago. I did quick search for a Tuesday through Thursday stay in mid June, 12-14th I think it was and the rate was $447 a night for example.

I did a four day stay there a year ago and got a great huge corner room on the second from the top floor and it’s in a good location too. At the time it saved me right around $1250 at the time. Seems to be at a 4.5 on trip advisor. I’d agree, 4-5 would be my rating too.

There is great value to be had using Wyndham points through the wyndhamvacationrentals.com site. It’s 15,000 points per bedroom. You can easily filter by the number of bedrooms. I am planning a 5 night stay at a cabin in the Smokey Mountains in the summer of ’19. I am hoping the Moondancer cabin will be available once I get dates finalized. One of the benefits is that many of the cabins/condos available accommodate more than 4 in a 1 bedroom which offers incredible value for my family of 5. There is also incredible value to be found to Colorado and the Florida panhandle. Yes, locations are limited but if you can make one of them work; it can be a great deal.

I almost always use my points at the Wyndham Santa Monica. The rooms are not special, but the location is incredible. It’s literally right next to the Pier. There’s also a parking garage across the street where you can park overnight at for significantly cheaper than the valet on-site. When I booked 3 nights there, with taxes it would have been over $1000 if I had paid cash. Never had an availability issue with booking there either.
