[Expired] Chase British Airways 100k Offer Ending 9/30/17?

Bonus no longer available

Update: Bonus is still available.

Chase has been offering a sign up bonus of up to 100,000 points on the British Airways card since early April. It’s a tiered bonus broken down as follows:

  • Earn 50,000 Avios after spending $3,000 in the first 3 months of cardmembership.
  • Earn an additional 25,000 Avios after spending $10,000 in the first 12 months of cardmembership.
    • Earn a total of 75,000 Avios after spending $3,000 in the first 3 months of cardmembership AND a total of $10,000 in the first 12 months of cardmembership. (85,000 Avios counting the 10,000 Avios from spending.)
  • Earn an additional 25,000 Avios after spending $20,000 in the first 12 months of cardmembership.
    • Earn a total of 100,000 Avios after spending $3,000 in the first 3 months of cardmembership AND a total of $20,000 in the first 12 months of cardmembership. (120,000 Avios counting the 20,000 Avios from spending.)

According to marketing e-mails sent out by Chase this offer is due to expire on 9/30/17 (hat tip to epala89). This isn’t that surprising as often card issuers do offer refreshes at the start/end of new quarters. If you’re interested in this card you might want to consider applying sooner rather than later. Keep in mind this card is not affected by the 5/24 rule.

If you do all 20k in the first month, will 100k bonus points post the following month? Seeing if anyone knows how long posting is, particularly for the higher tier spending bonus. Back when I did the card when bonus was just 50k, the bonus posted after the closing date of the month in which spend was done

Anyone know what the chances are of successfully ms’ing a very large part of the $20k? I generally do local grocery stores and ms chase cards, but nothing that large. I actually am able to get serious value on partner awards.

Avios are worthh less than skypesos in my book. ex; Ive been trying to book a flight to mnl, avios wants $208 and 40k avios for japan airlines, or $58 and 60k avios for aa/japan airlines…aa miles redemption cost $94 with the close in $75 fee included and had more availability that avios website was showing…cant believe aa miles are so much easier to redeem for availability because they are really frugal on award seats even if you have to call in for partner airline destinations. Dont bother with this card unless youve really exhausted all other credit card miles sign-up bonuses

So…by this offering “going away” means the “regular” offer is STILL 50k points after 3k spent in 90 days correct? (Just no chance to get the additional 2, 25k bonuses with more spend. ?

I haven’t had great luck with redeeming avios. There also seems to be some issue like they don’t cover where I travel or the fuel surcharges make them almost as expensive as a paid ticket or there is no availability. 100k points sounds nice, but for 20k spend I could combine multiple bonuses for higher return.

Maybe obvious but still worth saying that although this card is not affected by 5/24 in that you can get it even if you have over 5 in 24, it will *count towards* 5/24.

Chase will treat this card as newly opened and use it and all other newly opened personal cards to deny new approvals if you have 5 or more in 24 months.

Do we know when 24 months clock for next bonus starts ticking? Is it after they post last bonus miles (e.g. last 25k)?

Solid question. Did not think about that.

good riddance…. yet for any of those tempted, beware…. beware…. that Chase’s policy for the one-year counting for its “spend-by-date” is far, far more strict than for it’s “spend-by-3 month” products.

No grace period, no extra days, just exactly one year from date of approval. (which they don’t tell you unless you ask) (in short, don’t assume anything about this product — get it in writing, and be sure to spend long, long, long before your year is up. Don’t trust chase; don’t trust anything you may be told over the phone. get it in writing.)

Speaking from unhappy, brutal experience. If that’s changed, please do tell.
