Our Verdict

This isn’t a standard landing page (direct to the application link) so I’d recommend some caution using it. Best offer was 100,000 points on this card but that required $10,000 in spend whereas this is only $5,000 in spend. Good offer if you can use the United miles, we won’t add this to our list of the best credit card bonuses due to the nature of the link.

Huge devaluation. I was able to redeem a trip to SouthEast Asia for 44k miles/one way (Economy seat). Now the standard redemption is 60.5k miles/one way. Luckily, I’m done with all United miles. Now it’s time to rack up AA miles.

What is the most bestest way to make the $250 worth it?

Fly $125 in United flights a year (or book a refundable flight and cancel lol) and at least 2 award flights in excess of 5,000 points

Pathetic offer . 90K is equivalent to $400 and is barely enough for one way coach to Europe with multiple stops and 50 hour layover. Minus the fee and it is worth only $200 value . Sometimes domestic coach one way non stop cost 90000 miles

amsterdam to sfo business class nonstop one way is 106,000 miles. sfo to amsterdam is 116k. Im building a nonstop business class itinery, quest is helpful, especially consiedring yu can pay for the fee with miles.

Few days ago I looked for one way coach to Europe from US for one person it was all showing from 300000 miles to 500000 miles and domestic one way coach in US is showing at least 60000 miles. US to Asia is also horrible with 500000 to 700000 miles

I used 64500 United miles in 2021 for a round trip Jo’Burg to Addis Ababa biz class seat on Ethiopian Air which would have cost me ~4K USD. Good value IMO, but not a very good airline.

Apparently you don’t realize that being a united cardholder allows for redeeming miles at 1c each against paid tickets. Not to mention the fee for the quest can be offset at something like 1.6cpm. So 90k miles is at least $900. It’s a good SUB.

Consider the recent, massive devaluation of United miles before jumping.

The May 2023 United devaluation is way, way worse than most people think, and bloggers have simply not noticed (a classic case of misdirection, where everyone complained about price increases, as a much bigger and more impactful devaluation slipped by virtually unnoticed), or have been too lazy to mention it.

The major devaluation in United’s program was NOT the increase in award seat prices. It’s the loss of most partner options in premium cabins, AND being forced onto itineraries with multiple long, miserable, completely unnecessary layovers.

Before anyone even thinks about signing up for any United card, you should go take a look at what options there are for international business class redemptions that you might want. Never mind the high prices, just look at the horrible itineraries that are available. Virtually every good, reasonably direct option (and most partner awards) has simply disappeared – it’s not that the prices have gone up (they have), but even if you were willing to pay 2X, 3X, 5X or 10X in miles, good international premium cabin redemptions are just no longer available, AT ANY PRICE.

United miles are now worth far, far less than even Delta Skypesos. At least with Delta flights, you could throw 800,000 Skypesos and that flight to Paris or Tokyo in DeltaOne and get a nice experience. Not so with United. If you want to get anywhere in a forward cabin using United miles, you’ll need to spend 6 hours in Chicago and another 10 in Newark on the way. You can’t spend more United miles to get a decent routing on a partner airline, those are simply gone.

Unless all you want are domestic flights in coach, only a fool would invest more in United’s program.

Not just business class redemptions. Everything you’re saying also applies to Mileage Plus economy class bookings too.

And yet, not a single blogger has uttered one word about this. I wonder why that could be.

The card is still a good deal if you live at a hub and have no choice but to use United – it’s a long term keeper card with the $125 statement credit, 5,000 points off 2 reward flights, and Global Entry/TSA pre-check credit not to mention free checked bags and priority boarding

(I don’t fly United since I live at a Delta city but if I did, I could see myself pairing this with cheap basic economy cash tickets)

I fly economy so I don’t care. I looked and I can get to Japan direct in Economy for 100k miles which is a $2100 ticket so this seems pretty good to me.

Anyone know if by any chance this also includes the 500 Premier qualifying points (PQP) as part of the SUB?

The current public offer is 70k miles + 500 PQP.
I’m considering the card because I’m close to getting status and the extra 500 PQP will help greatly. But if I can get the 90K on top of the 500 PQP it would be awesome.

Thanks

I remember a while back about 5/24 not applying to Chase cards by another party, for example United. Think I’m at 6/24 so might give it a try…unless I’m misremembering please correct me on this before I make an oopsie

I think those were reported just for the United Gateway card, not all United cards, IIRC.

If this were the case everyone would be highlighting that, as they did w the Chase Ink Cash. Many people would test that and report results. So if you haven’t seen anything about this it means 5/24 applies.
