Check Your Alaska Accounts, You Might Have A Bonus 10,000 Miles From Virgin America

There are a number of people reporting that they have received an additional 10,000 miles in their Alaska airlines account. It’s listed as follows:

  • SPECIAL SERVICES ELEVATE MEMBER OTO 10K BONUS.

alaska-airlines

Obviously this has something to do with Virgin American, but I’m not exactly sure what the connection is as people with & without status have reported receiving it, as have people with and without various credit cards. Feel free to speculate on what the miles are for in the comments below. It could be from the Virgin America wine promotion, but it’s weird nobody has reported getting 5,000 points. Definitely not the wine offer, my guess is that these points were added in error and will be clawed back at some stage.

Need someone to post a datapoint – the Alaska Mileage Plan account number in the email offer for 10000 points is for a new account when I already have an Alaska Mileage Plan account with a different number. The email automatically fills in the account number for you, which in my case, is the new account number. Would I risk losing the 10000 miles if I put in the account number of my current Alaska Mileage Plan account instead?

Same situation. I put in my existing # and it said that im “not eleg” for the offer. Then I used the new # they put in and it doesn’t either work. It says “We were unable to process your request. The information you entered matches an existing account”. DID I LOSE IT???

Actually you have to look further in the email they sent and there is info for people who already have an account. “No need to activate a new Mileage Plan account if you already have one. Just let us know your existing account number We’ll automatically deposit 10,000 bonus miles in your account”

Well I clicked through the link and added my Mileage Plan number. The 10000 is not deposited instantaneously.

I’m in this boat, but when I click the link (already have MP account) and log in to my AS account, the I just see blanks in the VX account so it can’t link the 2 programs.

What’s the better deal? 10,000 miles or $100 discount? I’ve got the option. Elevate member but new to Alaska.

I’ve never flown Alaska b/c they don’t serve many airports in southeast.

10000 miles. Worst case you can redeem it for $100 off flight, best case free R/T trip < 700 miles.

Also curious about this. I rarely fly Alaska/Virgin, but I’m thinking the 10,000 miles might be worth more than the $100 option? Does it matter if I rarely fly them given that I won’t be accruing many new points down the road? You all think the 10,000 is a better value?

Mileage Plan conditions of membership apply. Visit AlaskaAir.com/MemberTerms for details. Choice of 10,000 bonus miles or $100 discount is valid only for active members of Virgin America Elevate as of December 5, 2016 who were not members of Alaska Mileage Plan. Only one offer can be selected, and choice of offer cannot be changed after account activation. Qualifying members will have through January 31, 2017 to make their selection. Any individual may receive a maximum of one offer, even if they hold multiple separate Elevate accounts. Mileage Plan elite status is valid through December 31, 2017. You must meet the published Mileage Plan status qualification rules in calendar year 2017 in order to re-qualify for elite status in 2018.

I just received an email announcing the 10k bonus miles! So it’s apparently an intentional bonus

To get the bonus you have to have both AS and VA mileage accounts. AS should have done a better job of announcing the bonus with an email or FB post. The number of people at the same address shouldn’t matter. My bonus miles just hit late this afternoon.

Just to clarify, I do not believe you have to have a AS account. Only a VA account. This bonus is a result of Alaska acquiring Virgin. Here is the wording from the email I received:

“Your Virgin America Elevate membership is paying off with Alaska Airlines.
You’re now a member of Alaska Airlines Mileage Planâ„¢, one of the most generous travel rewards programs out there. Your benefits begin with your choice of 10,000 bonus miles or $100 off any Alaska-operated flight when you activate your account. With round-trip flights starting at 10,000 miles, plus taxes and fees*, you’ll have enough to start traveling right away.

Once you activate your account, you can get 30% more miles when you convert your Elevate points to Mileage Plan miles and then redeem your miles on Alaska, Virgin America, and our global airline partners…”

It sounds like if there are two people living at the same address, one person “may” get the bonus. I got the bonus and my husband didn’t and we have the same # of AS card and linked VS account.

Just log into your own Alaska miles account to see the amount of miles you have.
