Citi now changed the terms of their signup bonuses to require a wait of 24-months from when the bonus was last received to get it again. Previously, the rule had been that only an 18-month wait was required.
You are now only eligible for the bonus if the card was not opened or closed in the past 24 months.
Most cards are showing the new wording, including the AA cards, ThankYou cards (i.e. Prestige), Expedia, etc.
Exceptions: Certain links for the Hilton HHonors is still showing the 18-month wording for now, and some affiliate links are still showing 18-months for one of the AA cards. I also don’t see any wording on business cards (maybe business cards don’t have the rule?). The ATT card is also still showing the 18-month language at the moment.
Update 5/3/16: Now, all cards are showing the 24-month language, including ATT and business cards.
We’ll update the List of Churnable Credit Cards to reflect the change.

This may be a stupid question, but looking to get clarification on the open/close in last 24 months. I have a AA card still open from when I opened it 3 years ago. Can I apply again and get the bonus while have the original still open?
I don’t get it why is clock reset if you close?
If -4 doesn’t come back, I’ll be shuttering Premier halfway thru the first year.
Neighbor called and was denied bonus today on premier card because he had prestige card wi 24 months. They enforced rule on any ty card. This may be worse than thoght
Ouch! I’m going to guess that this was a mistaken rep, unless we hear more data points.
I can confirm, after speaking with several managers in the SD office, that they are denying a bonus on a second TY product if you have had ANY TY product opened or closed in the past 18 (now 24) months. This was not in the terms when I signed up for a TY Premier card in February (having signed for for a Prestige card last August), and they are STILL denying the bonus points. Next stop class action/CFPB?
We’ve never seen this before, unless it’s a new change 🙁 I guess you can try CFPB.
Is opening a second Prestige or Premier card to get another bonus likely to lead to an account shutdown?
I don’t think it would lead to shutdown.
Does converting a couple of card to another product count as closing a card? So if you product changed a prestige to a premier could you apply for another prestige 24 months after opening the first one?
A product change counts as closing the account for purposes of resetting the bonus clock.
Honestly, this is fine. I far prefer 24 months over Amex’s one time only and Chase’s 5/24 rule.
exactly. there are many sweet things that are “once in a lifetime”, but I don’t think any Amex offer is comparable to those.
Wording seems to imply that getting the bonus is based on the date the card is opened or closed, *not* the date at which the bonus was last received? Big difference I think since many folks keep the card open to retain credit age.

Yes, that would seem to be correct.
AA biz card… I really thought Thankyou Biz comes back…
Wow! That is more extreme than Chase with the “or closed” language. Closing (maybe downgrading) all 5 of my Citi AAdv cards to reset the clock. Wonder if Chase will follow suit with the “or closed?” See you in 24 months?
