Our Verdict
This is a high as this bonus goes (correct me if I’m wrong), the standard bonus is without the $100 statement credit. To make use of the statement credit you should just be able to charge $100 worth of stuff (e.g food/drinks) to your room and then use the Citi Hilton Reserve to pay for those items, which is useful for those that don’t need any paid stays with Hilton.
Both of the American Express Hilton cards also have increased sign up bonuses at the moment (as does the other Citi Hilton card), which probably means Hilton is gearing itself up for another devaluation:
- Hilton HHonors Card from American Express Now With 60,000 Point Sign Up Bonus
- American Express Increases Sign Up Bonus To 80,000 Points On Hilton HHonors Surpass Card
- Citi Hilton HHonors Visa Signature Card Now 60,000 Point Bonus
Two free weekend nights + $100 is a better offer than the above if you want to stay at luxury properties within the Hilton portfolio, otherwise you might be better off with the points. I need to check when I last had this card to see if I’m eligible for the bonus again, if I am I’ll probably grab it. I wish the statement credit didn’t require you to have $100+ in spend at a Hilton property, but I can probably just stay at one for a work trip or just charge a bunch of stuff to my room when I do my two free nights.

Can you go to a Hilton and buy a $100 gift card?
Not sure why I didn't think of that option, I imagine so but not sure if it codes different if it's not charged to the room. I imagine the FT thread has some data points, if I have some time I'll have a look.
