Citi Pre-Qualified Offers Don’t Always Include 24 Month Language

Currently you’re not eligible for a sign up bonus on a Citi credit card if you’ve opened or closed a card within that family or brand within the past 24 months. Reddit user ToastedBaconSandwich checked their pre-qualified offers with Citi and they were pre-qualified for a card that didn’t contain this language. They have now received their card with bonus information that doesn’t include this 24 month language, other readers have also reported the same thing – but with the bonus tracker also appearing (usually meaning you’re eligible for the bonus).

[Read: How To Ensure You’ll Receive Pre-Approved Offers]

You can click here to see if you’re pre-qualified for any Citi credit cards. Not all offers exclude this language, so make sure you double check. The language you’re looking for is as follows:

Bonus <points/miles> not available if you have had any <cards within that brand/family> opened or closed in the past 24 months

Please share your data points in the comments below, in terms of what cards you were pre-qualified for and if they included the 24 month language or not. Also remember to follow up if you receive the bonus or not. American Express also send out targeted offers without their restrictive language as well, this seems to be a going trend where card issuers are willing to bend the rules if they’ve identified you as a desirable customer for whatever reason. You can check your other pre-approved/pre-qualified offers with other card issuers by clicking here.

Also note that the system often tells you that you don’t have any prequalified offers, yet gives some suggestions. Those suggestions sometimes don’t have the 24-month lingo, and they might also work to bypass the limitation.

I received an email from Citi for the AA platinum card. It doesn’t have any language about open or closed within 24 months, but it does say, “This offer is only valid for new accounts.”

Any idea if I can use the pre qualified link 2nd time for another person in the same household?

The AA Plat 50k/$3k showed up today under my pre-qualified offers and it did not contain the 24 month language. I check for pre-qualified offers periodically and this is the first time I’ve had a pre-qualified offer display. I applied and was approved. I already have an AA Gold World Elite and an AA Plat World Elite (I had held off from using the loophole to reapply earlier this year while I focused on Chase cards). I’ll try to remember to follow-up once I know if I receive the bonus.

I did a prequal and it gave me the AA credit card page. I am already a cardholder of this product, which I found odd, but is offering the 40,000 bonus points. I did not see any disqualifying language, but since I am already a card holder, do we think this would still work for the bonus?

I am getting the message that there is no offer for me at this time, but it gives me suggestions, when I go to these offers I don’t see any language there

I’m in the same exact boat. No pre-q, however the suggested offer doesn’t state anything about disqualification for bonus based on receiving bonus in past 24 months. Thoughts?

Did you check all the tabs? It is not listed under Terms and Conditions, rather the 24-month language is typically listed under Overview.

Yeah I had the same thing and I checked all the tabs and links. Even started the application to make sure it wasn’t added in there. No 24 month language anywhere. It was the AA Platinum 30K that it suggested to me.
