This page contains a list of reconsideration line phone numbers. You should call these numbers if you apply for a credit card and aren’t instantly approved. In general they will ask you a few basic questions (e.g “Why did you miss a credit card payment back in 2008?”) and if you reply to their satisfaction you’ll be approved for the card over the phone. All times on this page are in EST (Eastern Standard Time). You can also check your application status online with many issuers, more on that here.
Calling a reconsideration line for the first time can be nerve racking, so get a few tips before you call.
We keep this page regularly up to date.

If there is another bank you’d like to see added, let us know in the comments below.
After calling BOA using 10+ different number for business cc recon, I give up… 2 reps transferred me to another line that hang up instantly.
Was able to successfully recon a BoA PR Elite app after closing some unused biz cards and moving $5k from an old BoA PR card. Used 877-261-3664 for recon and provided application # when a *person* answered – no IVR hell!
Can confirm, used this number 877-261-3664. Just reconned, that they did not submit the app until I had confirmed all my info in the application.
KMan What reason did they give you for rejecting initially? The letter I got says “You have, or recently have had, a sufficient number of accounts with us and/or our affiliates”.
Actually, they didn’t even denied me first. They wanted to verify it was me who applied
Flynn What reason did they give you for declining initially? The letter I got says “You have, or recently have had, a sufficient number of accounts with us and/or our affiliates”. It sounds like moving some lines around won’t matter. I have 4 personal cards.
TJ don’t have the letter anymore, but I think was a similar reason. In prior recon call, agent made it sound like BoA was at their limit for extending any additional credit, so I closed some old cards and brought down total credit by $30k or so, then successfully reconned.
Oh, interesting.I don’t really want to close any of my BofA cards, but I’d be willing to shift some limits around. The person I talked to today said it auto declined again, but she sent it for review and she’ll call me back in 1 to 2 days.
Bank of America’s phone tree is intentionally designed to frustrate customers. It’s now 10 minutes and I am still trying to get into the queue on hold. At one point, it was ‘click 2 to remain on hold’ and immediately after it was ‘click 3 to remain on hold’.
Definitely I will squeeze this bank for every bonus out there, and then dump the product as soon as feasibly possible.
BoA is hell
Called 800-453-9719 to discuss Chase business reconsideration, they mentioned that this was their consumer line and they had to redirect me to the business line (didn’t get a chance to get the number).
same – and they definitely don’t work until 10pm ET anymore
I called 800-453-9719 and the agent (definitely from India) was able to pull up my CIU app, but could not proceed further. The application was “still under review” and no information was requested. He couldn’t do anything to move the application ahead. So annoying. He gave me the standard line of “it can take 1-2 weeks, but I can call back in a couple days to see if there is any change in the status.”
Edit: The automated prompt says “app is being processed, that’s all we have for you. You can hang up now, or press 1 to repeat” or something. I pressed 0 to talk to an agent, but that’s not one of the menu options they advertise. Sneaky Chase.
I did have to call back again (like total of 2-3 times) and eventually someone apologized and said they would try to push that other department for a decision. I think that dept only work certain hours though so try calling during middle of day for best chance.
US Bank recon hours are 8am-5pm CST M-F.
I should’ve checked the comments first. Just applied and found this out too.
Curious if anyone knows if USAA has a recon/backdoor line?
Sorry for the double comment, thought my last comment got deleted.
Does USAA have a recon line? Haven’t had a chance to call yet, but was told by a chat rep that they do not do recons at all (by chat or by phone). I know sometimes chat can be unreliable and was curious if anyone has had experience with this?
For BoA my letter for following up on an initial decline tells me to call 888-230-6262, but it is fraud department, so probably not general recon department for anyone The dumb thing is I had to wait for the letter which had no info other than to call. But I guess they are verifying control of the address.
For Chase, I could not get (888) 270-2127 to work. It kept asking for my SSN, then said my application was being reviewed (even though it was already denied). There was no option to talk to a human (called multiple times on different days).
I googled and saw someone reference (888) 338-2586. I heard similar prompts, but it eventually asked if I wanted to talk to a representative. That person then transferred me to someone else, who then asked if I wanted to speak with a reconsideration specialist. The third person was able to approve me.
That works! Be sure to press the credit card status option and wait for the prompt to press “0” to speak to an agent.
I used 800-718-6051 and was able to speak to an agent in BoFA… Not sure if it was direct ‘re-consideration’ but the CSR did transfer me to the person who helped me get the card approved
Vaidy Did you receive the decline letter first before calling? What was your initial decline reason and how was it ameliorated?
