Our Verdict
Normally we don’t post checking bonuses unless they are at least $100, but this is nationwide. I suspect we will be seeing a lot of these nextgen banking apps/cards offering bonuses like this in the future. Personally I’d recommend waiting for a larger bonus from current as I don’t think this will be the best bonus ever offered by them. Because of that I won’t be adding this to the list of the best checking account bonuses.

Does anyone know what the monthly transfer limit is for Current Bank? My understanding is that it is 5k. Can someone confirm?
Fidelity did not work for me, even though I got an email clearly saying I had received a DD. Still no bonus paid and I contacted customer service about it
PSA: got and email today for inactive account fee and they raising the close account fee.

I got this email as well and went to cancel my account right away. There were about 400 people in the chat queue but I was successfully able to reach someone after about an hour and a half. They canceled my account instantly. I had about a dollar in the account and they didn’t charge me any fees so I guess it was good enough.
What happened to the “about a dollar” that you had in the account?
I got the same email. What a ripoff! Luckily, I left 4 cents in my account. I guess I will have to remember to transfer a few pennies from savings pods to the main account every year until they go defunct to avoid the stupid fees. This should be illegal.
It’s best to transfer $.01 to all accounts at least every 6 months that you keep long term even if there are no dormancy fees. That way you don’t have to worry about it.
Cancelled in chat. After the agent closed I got a follow up message from her asking if there was anything else I needed. The chat popped up but because my acct was closed (I assume) I was kicked out of the app and couldn’t reply. Great software here 🙂
That has happened to me a few times when I sent an SM for closure of bank accounts. I never ended up seeing the reply because they disabled online access. That is very short-sighted by these companies.
Just a heads up for rideshare drivers. While Current considered a Lyft direct deposit as qualifying, they did not consider my referee’s Uber direct deposit qualifying. So if you’re an Uber driver don’t bother trying to get the $50 referral. Company should be investigated because they’re violating their own ToS.
Just came back to see if they’re bankrupt yet, they’re only paying 4% still now that everyone is paying 4%+ and treasuries are at 5%+
DP: Amazon payment doesn’t count as DD. Per support:
“It looks like you’re receiving a deposit that our system is not classifying as a qualifying direct deposit.”

I opened the account to get 4% 6 months ago (without bonus). Now only 0.25%. I was not aware about the DD requirement. I lost money since I saw that 3 weeks later. I try to close but they force me to withdraw some cents and to wait again 3 days once the 3 cents are sent. Lazy inefficient customer service too. I don’t recommend them.
