Delta suffered some horrible delays recently due to weather issues and this was made worse by their IT. According to Point Me To The Plane and this Flyertalk thread, Delta will provide the following compensation:
- $200 travel voucher or 20,000 Delta SkyMiles
You’ll be eligible for this compensation if the following happened to you on two flights or more:
- You experienced a delay of greater than 3 hours and/or
- You experienced a complete cancellation
The miles/travel voucher should be awarded by May 1st and if you were affected you don’t need to do anything. Loyalty program members will get the miles and everybody else will receive the travel voucher.
I was fortunate to be delayed only 5 hours on 4/7/17 @ ATL. Saw some folks not able to get on my flight even though I saw empty First Class seats. What a travesty! I guess if it just happened once, you don’t deserve any consideration.
Data point: I asked @DeltaAssist about whether I was eligible for this compensation. Through DM, the agent outlined the policy for getting compensation (pretty restrictive if you ask me).
Agent said I was not eligible under the terms of this compensation (we were delayed about 3 hours before we cancelled for a full refund). When I persisted, agent offered me one $50 travel voucher per traveler “as a gesture of goodwill.”
This seems shaky. Point Me To The Plane has a long quote as the basis for its report, but it doesn’t say where that quote came from. It doesn’t appear in the FlyerTalk thread.
Okay, I’m seeing this same report at more established travel blogs. We’ll see.
That is a sad joke. Canceled twice and they give you 20k miles haha lmao. They are sooooooo lucky that United crap happened or they would be getting hit harder on the PR end.
I hope that is in addition to the DOT mandated compensation.
