Department of Homeland Security Lifts NY Ban On Trusted Traveler Programs

In February the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that NY residents would be suspended from Global Entry and other trusted traveler programs in response to sanctuary law. In March refunds were issued. DHS has now announced that this ban has been lifted as New York has amended the Green Light Law to allow for:

… information-sharing of NY DMV records “as necessary for an individual seeking acceptance into a trusted traveler program, or to facilitate vehicle imports and/or exports.”

Trusted Traveler offices are currently closed until at least September 8th due to COVID-19.

  • How will this work for those of us with Global Entry that were expired during that time? Can we still renew online without going in for another interview?

    • With renewals, it’s YMMV. DPs: P1 automatic renewal; P2 interview at airport to renew. Neither had expired. With the pandemic and many DHS/TTP/GE sites closed for new applications until later this year, it’s anyone’s guess. Good luck, fella.

      • Thanks Pazzo. I would have renewed if it wasn't for the block by DHS. Probably worked out since we don't know when it's safe enough for us to travel.

      Try to “read the transcript” and realize the news here is that NY DMV records will be shared with DHS only for the limited purpose of those NY-resident trusted traveler applications, NOT generally.

      NY is still a sanctuary for undocumented immigrants (which you probably regrettably refer to as “illegals”)

    • I wasn't a d move, NEW York enabled illegal imigrants to get a drivers license and info about it would not be shared. The Govt is not gonna allow illegals into TTP

      • @guest_1022035 Haha, word-choice tells us all we need to know. They’re undocumented, not “illegal,” just like when you go one mile over the speed limit, you’re not “illegal” then either, you’re just breaking traffic laws.

        Undocumented immigrants were not applying for TTP. The original action by DHS was simply political retaliation by the Trump Administration against the residents of New York state.

          • TTP applicants were willing to provide their documents. Rather, NY residents were barred by DHS from being able to apply, all because Trump wanted to settle a political score.
