• Nice score, $425 for $500 Lowe's GC. It did decline my Chase credit card and sent a fraud check to my email, but at the time I wasn't checking my email so I used my Citi credit card and it worked just fine. Good looking out DOC

• Is dollar general considered a grocery store or drug store? I don't think I've been to one.

  • Depends on what card you're using. I used an Amex today and it shows pending as "general merchandise" so we will see what that means after it posts.

• I purchased two last night (different accounts) and the second transaction showed approved on the credit card terminal and then spit out a receipt that it didn't activate. The worse part was that it used the digital coupon on the canceled transaction so when the cashier tried to redo the transaction it charged full price. Also, the cashier and manager couldn't figure out how to override the price since then it would've just loaded $425 to the GC instead of $500.

• Is the only way to take advantage of this offer involve setting up a DG account?

  • Yes, you have to add the coupon to your account online, then enter your account (phone) number at the store so the system can find it.

• just curious, is the scratch pad of the lowe's gift all looks loose or the one at dollar general are modified by scrammers? I went to a store and all lowe's gift card looks not original

  • Mine don't look loose. FYI, wife was with me, and she is much more cautious about these type of things, so she told me to take them from the back in case someone tampered with the front ones.

    I did have problems with this deal a couple of years ago. Daughter bought some and some were rejected, etc., so she ended up coming home with some that weren't activated and the activated ones went back on the shelf!!!

    Fortunately I tried to use them the day we got them and realized the problem, got back to the store and they sorted it all out by pulling the activated ones from the shelf and holding them for me. But what a mess that would have been a disaster if I had waited to use them some time down the road.

• Can you use Lowe’s GC to buy VGC in a Lowe’s store?

  • I'm pretty sure the answer is no, especially now that Lowes requires all gift card purchases to be made at the customer service desk.

    • I bought $1k of style everywhere vgc at register yesterday at Lowe's. There was no requirement to go to the service desk.

  • Yes, I bought some Very Good Cabinets for the bathroom at Lowes yesterday morning using a Lowes gift card.

• Mine, that allowed CC 2 years ago, was cash only this time. And they mean the green stuff. They wouldn't even allow Bank Debit Card. They said people do charge backs.

  Had to go to an ATM to find some of those green pieces of paper I recall using years ago.

• Got a Lowe's $500 today on CC no problem. Going to another location tomorrow to try for another one.

• Can you buy the VGC’s at lowes with the lowes GC? I know HD is hardcoded against that.

• It's very YMMV with the credit card. Could be store policy, could be employee working that day. The POS will allow it though. Last year when they ran this offer, I happened to be in a small rural town. The cashier ran it, but the manager noticed at the last minute and tried to stop it. The card already went through and processed; they couldn't refund me; manager basically said don't come back and do this (I wasn't going to be back regardless). A couple days later I find out the gift card was deactivated and they refunded my credit card. So, just a heads up, this is potentially the length a dollar general will go through to disallow cc on a gift card. On the other hand, in my neighborhood, which is mostly very safe and crime-free, they allow it no problem.

  The lowe's offer is definitely one per reward account though. So you'll need multiple mobile phone numbers to sign up for multiple rewards accounts if you want to scale.

  • Yes, Definitely one Lowe's gift card per phone number that is tied to each DG digital download account. Before you go make sure that you download the digital coupon to your DG account. Then at the register just enter that phone number and 15% discount is automatically applied. I bought three in three separate transactions with cash today without any problems, but on the 4th attempt it would not activate the gift card, Said suspected fraud--LOL but I was paying with cash. Manager told me just to come back tomorrow, but I went to a different DG and bought it there. I like saving 15%!!

    • What is your method for getting multiple accounts/coupons? I tried making an account with a Google voice number but DG recognized it and didn't allow it
