Miles did not post for Alaska and I did it on October 27. What should I do?

I signed up October 24, miles posted on October 24. Start date was November 4, “next payment date” was January 2. I actually got billed $49.55 for renewal on January 4. Just called to cancel and they will refund the $49.55 (took about 1 minute to cancel). Pretty harmless, all in all!

I called them today and canceled. The lady said she’s canceling and refunding no problems. But I asked twice if she could please send me e-mail confirmation.. she said oh.. yeah no problem.. but 3 hours later and there’s no e-mail. Maybe it takes time after canceling for an automatic e-mail to generate?

I called and canceled on the 2nd and same thing happened to me. I called early in the morning and finally got my confirmation email later that evening.
I was able to cancel no problem but I’m still wondering if my points are going to get taken away, because I canceled 59 days from start of subscription. I never got an answer but I don’t care at this point.

Hey guys,

One thing I’m thinking.. since no one else is replying (surprising, since it seems like 100s of people bought into this deal).. is according to the first comments.. any “unused” time on a subscription should be able to be refunded prorated.. so perhaps I’m thinking to let my subscription renew on January 2.. to make sure I keep the miles.. but then call on January 3 to cancel it and hopefully have it refunded prorated hopefully. What do you think of this strategy?

My miles posted on October 24.. now the problem.. is when to cancel it.. it says next billing is 01/02 hmm.. but it also says start date of subscription was 11/04, even though I actually signed up on 10/23. So do I wait until 01/04 and get billed on 01/02? or do I cancel now to avoid getting billed?
I don’t want to get charged.. but I also wouldn’t be too happy to lose the miles. What’s everyone else doing? It looks like at least 25 people here signed up. Hoping to read some more comments about this problem everyone seems to have.

Did people’s AA miles post yet? That isn’t supposed to happen till after the 8 week mark, correct?

Well that’s a problem… Mine still haven’t posted. (First time something hasn’t posted for me, ever.) This is going to be annoying and not worth the time, I can see it now. I was under the impression it would post at the end of 2 months, still giving me a few weeks to cancel.

I’m calling to cancel on 12/31. If my miles get taken away, so be it. I can’t be bothered. I feel like they purposely make the verbiage/dates as vague and confusing as possible. Lesson learned, I’m never signing up for a deal like this again.

Just called the economist 2x and got two different answers. The first (extremely rude) rep I spoke to insisted I had to call the airline and they would be the one to answer my question. That does not seem right to me. Then I called back and spoke to a nicer rep who couldn’t answer my question but took my info down and is having a manager call me back. Ugh.

Where do you see it’s set to auto-renew on January 2? I thought it says it renews after 12 weeks? so wouldn’t that be on February 2?I’m in the same situation as you, so just trying to
clarify what’s going on.

When I signed up, in addition to the confirmation email, they also sent me an email “Your Subscription To The Economist” and in that email it has the start date, expiry date, ect, and ‘next payment date’ which shows Jan 2 for me.
Oh and I still haven’t received a call back from a manager!

I signed up this silly Economist subscription on October 23.. but my “start date” says November 4.. now that you mentioned it.. yeah I checked the e-mail and mine says January 2 also.. I don’t want to risk them trying to charge my card.. so I guess there’s no choice but to call and cancel today :/ even though I might also forfeit and lose the United miles.. bummer

anyone feel free to correct me if i’m wrong before i call n cancel.. thanks

I’m ready to cancel my subscription but I’m a little confused. I signed up through the AA portal on 10/24. 60 days from then would be 12/23. However when I log in to my account on The Economist website, under ‘start date’ it says 11/4.
So is it 60 days from 10/24 (when I opened an account) or 60 days from 11/4 (when my subscription started) ? I guess I’ll call them but I figured I’d ask here first.

The subscription expiration date should be shown on the mailing label of the magazine that you get. Its on the second line.
Also to register for online account you need to use the CRN which is 8 numerical digits on line 2 as well. The online account though it has “Manage subscription” link does not have a way to turn off auto renewal but does show start and end dates.
None of the dates match though like you found. I have a different exp date on the mailing label (end Jan) versus once I login, it is showing a start date of early Nov and exp date late April.
Also since I did not get a copy this week, I am assuming they are skipping holiday weeks like this and maybe next.
I paid with a disposable CC..so I am not too worried; that said I would like to know as well what would be the best way to cancel so as not to receive an unpaid invoice

That’s not really my issue. I did a digital subscription and have an online account.
My question was in order to fulfill the 60 day requirement, do I cancel 60 days from account opening or 60 days from start of subscription.
Let’s just say it’s 60 days from start of subscription (which would be Jan 3)…according to their site, I’m due to get billed on January 2…so I’d get billed for the next quarter before I’m able to cancel. Doesn’t make sense.

Perhaps try logging into your Economist.com account to do it? I signed up for the offer as well, as received an email from them with the subject: “Your subscription to The Economist”, which has all the information you’ll need.

Any data points on how long it takes Alaska miles to post. I bought via the portal in late October.

Offer seems dead for Delta. United is down to 1600 instead of 2400. American, Alaska and Southwest all appear to still be alive and unchanged.

Interesting, as of today, for me, they’re still alive but they’ve all reverted to their original value-
*American AAdvantage: 1,500 miles
*United MileagePlus: 800 miles
*Alaska Mileage Plan: 1,100 miles
*Southwest Rapid Rewards: 1,100 points

except Delta which is still dead for me.

Last night, I signed up through Alaska and it still showed 2,200 and I took a screenshot of it so hopefully I won’t run into any issues getting my miles.
