Get An Additional 500 Miles (60,500 Total) On The American Airlines Barclaycard Offer

Update: Now working on the 60,000 mile offer. Thanks to reader Nathan WY & Churner Club.

The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • The standard bonus on the American Airlines Barclaycard is 60,000 points after your first purchase. If you use an application found in flight (basically just entering the six digit number in the above link) you get an additional 500 points.
  • One reader shared the six digit number given to them (non unique, think it’s tied to flight attendenant and I assume that flight attendant gets some sort of bonus, so feel free to share other numbers in the comments if your flight attendant does a good job. If anybody works for American Airlines, share the bonus structure in the comments as well).
    • 344744
    • 139705
  • According to this comment, the bonus structure is as follows:
    • $50 per approved application.
    • $20 bonus per application when you get 10 approved application in non-revolving two months period
    • Another $20 for 25 applications approved in the same period.

The Fine Print

  • 500 point bonus isn’t mentioned on the sign up page, but readers have confirmed it posting

Our Verdict

Obviously not the biggest improvement in offers, but every mile helps so might as well get an extra 500! As always read these things you should know about Barclaycard credit cards here. We will likely add this to our best credit card bonus page next update as well.

Hat tip to reader Charles

  1. James says:

Some troubling stuff from the T&C: “… (the offer) may not be available if you already have or have had an account with us.”

  2. Matthew says:

I have a really good friend who’s a flight attendant. Greatly appreciate anyone who uses his number…

    [removed by request]

    Thanks DoC!

  3. Ken says:

Are there any reports of people who already have the Aviator Red getting a 2nd card?

  4. Acslaterbro says:

Doc can you please add 344744 to the list?

  5. Laura says:

Just to be aware- I’ve had this card a week and the app/website have been down about 75% of the times I’ve tried to log in to the account. So one must have technological patience when dealing with Barclaycard right now.

    • Matthew says:

Hmm, maybe it’s something with your computer? 🙁 I have been checking my account often since I’ve been doing the 15k spend, hasn’t been down once for me.

  6. Binbin says:

Anyone able to apply a code retroactively? Approved last week but card has not come yet.

  7. matt says:

Does anyone know if there is a waiting period between opening a new BarclayAA account and having just canceled the same account? I had the Aviator card for several years and just canceled last month. How long do I have to wait to open another and get the bonus?

    Thanks!!!

    • Matthew says:

I think with any card issuer, waiting 3 months should be safe, but it also depends upon your application habits/goals.

    • Matthew says:

      DoC recommends 6 months actually:

Barclaycard card’s are churnable, meaning you can get the sign up bonus on cards more than once. If you get approved, you’ll get the sign up bonus. The difficult thing is getting the card approved, you’ll need to have cancelled the previous card and usually a wait for at least six months is required. In addition it’s a good idea to be putting spend through any existing Barclaycard credit cards before applying for a new card.

  8. Wings says:

Promotion code 623979 will also work to get the bonus!

  9. Matt says:

My Sister just started working for AA, her Code is 863099. Future thanks to all those who use her #.

  10. Brad says:

Another code that works is 667608, thanks in advance!

  11. Vic says:

    DoC,

Any idea whether there’s a 50,000 miles link that accept promo code?

We probably need info from someone who recently took AA flight?

  12. Matthew says:

New link is http://www.myaviatorcard.com (shows 50k offer with ability to enter code)

  13. GL says:

Applied at the 40k bonus 🙁

However had a target offer of 10k for spending $750 in each of the months of May, June and July. Still quite miffed but softens the disappointment.

    • Matthew says:

A friend of mine got a supervisor to match. He applied within the last couple of weeks before the new offer hit.

      • GL says:

Yup the supervisor said able to match for new accounts opened in the last 30 days. Oh well. I might HUCA over the weekend.

  14. blue9 says:

William, the “direct link” is broken and says offer expired. The new link is https://www.applyaviator.com/apply/Landing.action?campaignId=2301&cellNumber=2

  15. bob says:

The Frontier Airlines card (also from Barclays) has this “feature” as well.

  16. TJ says:

William, if I have the non AF Aviator card still open which was originally a US Airways card, can I get the 50k miles? It’s been way over 24 months. I don’t have a Red Aviator, but I do have an Aviator. Can you please give me any information? Thanks!

    • I think you have to close before getting the bonus again and usually wait between closing and opening the new account (~6 months) YMMV

      • TJ says:

So just a DP, I applied with my current non-AF Aviator right after making this comment on the 9th. Went to pending. I called backdoor number just now and she approved me for the card even though I have a card in the family. So, kinda stoked! That’s my last card. I’m done for awhile. I went 2 years with no applications after doing a spree, and now I’m at 7.

What happened to the recent comment links at the at the bottom of the page?

  18. Mark P says:

I applied for the card using one of the codes found here and was denied unfortunately. But, I still received the 500 bonus miles that just hit my AA account!

  19. Deb says:

I just took a flight and picked up an app because why not? Said we could fill out online later if we wanted too. Thought I’d at least check it out. code on the app given to me was 189866

  20. MarcoPolo says:

Is there any disadvantage in linking SPG & Marriot award programs?

  21. Michael says:

Another good FA has code 821093.

  22. Christine Ponder says:

My Sister just started working for AA, her Code is 863058. Future thanks to all those who use her #.

  23. Rab says:

When do the points post for this card ( in other words when does barclays charge the annual fee? Is it in the first statement or the 12th statement?)
Please let me know. Thank you

  24. Frequent Traveller says:

I just applied for the card and used 658197 as my referral code and I was approved for 15500 dollar Aviator Card.

  26. Nathan wy says:

Official link i got in flight today is good for the 60k. Myaviatorcard.com/miles. My flyer says expires 11 30 17

  27. JP says:

How soon the miles are posting for this offer?

  28. Hey this is just like those commercials for sponsoring kids in poor countries….You sponsor them and they send you a letter with a picture and how they are doing. I think its time these FA’s do the same for us using their codes. I want a picture, a handwritten letter, and a Xmas card, too.

  29. Andrew says:

Anyone know if the in-flight, paper app has the following language:

“This one-time AAdvantage® bonus mileage offer is valid for first-time cardmembers with new accounts only. Existing cardmembers, existing accounts, and previous cardmember with accounts closed in the past 24 months may not be eligible for this offer.”

    • That language isn’t enforced

      • Andrew says:

So I should expect to get the bonus if I currently hold an existing Aviator Red, converted from the US Airways Dividend Miles World MasterCard days? I thought the language I quoted was relatively new?

        • Matthew says:

I was auto-denied by the system for having the old card. I’m thinking it’s a new policy by the system? The agent told me it didn’t even pull my credit. She processed the application herself and I was approved.

          • JW says:

I had 4 USAir cards back when the card was churnable. I kept one of them and it was converted to Aviator Red prior to 12/2016. I read many posts that people who are holding a converted Red card still got approved for a new one. But I got rejected last night.

Before calling the recon line, I would like to seek advice for what to say to maximize my chance of getting approved. Please help!! Thanks.

          • Matthew says:

JW, I would say you want to keep business/personal expenses separate on the other card. Those posts you read, were they fairly recent? I think the instant denial system for same product started really recently, preventing hard pulls.

  30. free AA points says:

what happens if i close the card after getting the bonus? is it any sort of issue?

  31. El Ingeniero says:

I have the No Annual Fee Aviator Card. What chance I would be accepted for the 60K offer?

  32. Adam D says:

    DATA POINT:

I had the USairways card that auto-converted to red aviator. I applied for the 60k offer, declined after one day of pending. Called recon, CSR told me specifically its because I have a red aviator already open. I the nsaid I like to keep my expenses seperate for reimbursements, no dice. Seems like you cant get a 2nd red aviator even if you were transitioned from the usairways…I am going to clsoe today and wait a few months to apply again.

  33. Brad Harris says:

I had a USAir card that was converted to the red AA card. Did not want to pay the fee so requested the no fee card. This was two years ago. Applied for this 60,500 offer and after 5 days of pending was approved. Have 5 booked flights on AA; maybe having AA bookings helps.

  34. Doc, here are some unique-ish/weird DPs for Barclaycard applications.

Applied for Arrival Plus before the 50K offer expired. Put in an older, expired promo code from a targeted mailer for good measure. This was on Sep 19, 1:15 AM ET and got a TransUnion HP (am in VA) and approval with 5K limit. Lousy limit, but Ok..

Later that evening, applied for the Aviator Red (missed putting in the flight attendant code and also clicked Yes for expedited shipping – double idiocy) hoping to double dip on the TU HP. Got pending status. Called recon, reviewed application and was approved with 10K limit. THEN, got a notice for an _Experian_ HP – which kind of defeated the purposed of the double-app.

Also, when I check the Barclaycard status page for the applications, the Sep 19, 1:15 AM Arrival+ application lists the correct date but the Aviator Red 10 PM application and recon lists the day after (Sep 20) for that application.

Experian (to which Barclays promptly reported new accounts even before I get the cards) has my account open dates as Sep 21 and Sep 22 respectively instead of Sep 19 and Sep 20.

  35. Drew says:

Data point for those of you who signed up for the card, bought a pack of gum, cleared the bonus and then called to cancel. I received a 5,000 mile ($1,000 spend in 90 days) retention offer after having the card active for just over one month. I accepted the challenge. 810 credit score, LOL / 24.

    • Gayle Trunfio says:

Filing out the application now and it’s asking for a travel date. What did you enter in that field?

    • Rahul says:

How soon does the bonus post? At statement close date or instantly after 1st purchase?

      • Rahul says:

Nvm, just saw the post “things you should know about Barclaycard credit cards”. Looks like the award posts as soon as the first transaction is made, which is great!
