Update 4/18/24: Deal is coming back for 4/19/24 – 4/25/24. Some stores are at 2x and some are 3x. (ht Eric)
The Offer
Giant/Stopandshop/Martin’s have an offer showing in their upcoming circular:
- Get 2x/3x fuel points on the purchase Visa gift cards.
Gift cards generally don’t earn fuel points at all at Giant/S&S/Martin’s, but occasionally they release offers like this to get points on gift card purchases.
Gas Points Details
Every 100 points gets you 10¢ off per gallon at Shell, up to 20 gallons. If you have 1000 points, you’ll get $1 off. If you have 1500 points, you’ll get $1.50 off per gallon (max $1.50 discount in most). Points can be used at partner Shell locations.
Points are now usable on groceries as well, with a value of 100 points equaling a $1 discount.
- You have 30 days to select whether you want to use the points on gas or groceries, then 30 days to actually use them.
- See the FAQ for more details. Some of the details vary by area and store.
- Points usually are available immediately, but I’ve had on occasion where it took a day until they showed up and were usable.
Our Verdict
Given that points can be used to discount groceries as well these deals are more widely useful. Use a card that earns a bonus at the grocery. Stack with 10% Chase Offer.
Note, many SS/Giant stores have implemented a $1,500 limit in gift card purchases each day (previously the limit was $5,000). They also require putting it all on a single card. Also note that some SS/Giant stores now only award points for the first purchase of the deal, so be sure to buy the full $1,500 worth in a single transaction.

This is great to combine with the 4x Citi Merchant Offer that many of us have for S&S. Discussed in this thread. I have three Custom Cash cards, I am using one for everyday purchases at S&S but I think that I will buy $495 gift cards on the other two since I do not have any monthly purchases on them (since Chase Freedom has 5% restaurants) so I can do grocery on all of them this cycle. I really hate the Vanilla Visa cards for taxes, but they’ve worked with my insurance company in the past.
Citi Offers: Get 4% Back At Giant/Stop & Shop (Up To 12 Uses; $30 Max Cashback) – Doctor Of Credit
NJ S&S bought single 500 VGC. only 1x posted (2x was advertised). strange. Have to call I guess.
Same, MA, only 1X.
Took some hours for the extra to post for me.
Really? I bought on Monday and still don’t have 2x.
I don’t think that they are going to be fixing it before the promo ends so you’ll have to call in for the missing points.
Well, I would have expected them to fix it for new purchases first thing Monday morning, Obviously, they didn’t since I purchased it around noon. I know they won’t fix it retroactively for purchases which got credited incorrectly.
And the post I replied to was from Sunday night and claimed that they were credited the correct amount later on, which seemed odd.
To be clear, I meant that it didn’t seem like they would be fixing it for new purchases as it still wasn’t fixed as of yesterday.
Still broken on my purchase late Monday morning, I’ll also have to call.
4/19 Giant MD circular in No. Virginia: 2X flex points, “$1,500 limit per household.”
Someone has dropped the ball at least on my store’s S&S flyer. Says “terms and conditions at https://stopandshop.com/pages/gift-cards”
that link only has info on Stop and Shop GC, no data on 3rd party GC at all.
I’m going in for 2k tomorrow.
My store has 3x. I also don’t see any limits of 1500 or 2000 (PA) which is new. It says they have the right to limit quantities at any time.
Last time I did this promotion I had a lot of difficulty liquidating these cards through normal spend online and offline…kept getting declined. Don’t know if that has improved.
had similar issues in the recent past. Called and they had to send a replacement. Replacement also did the same but unlocked it self after 24 hours.
need to leave <$1 on the card in order for it to go through
That’s not what was going on. $30 stuff was being refused. All 3 cards had issues. I eventually resorted to MS even though that wasn’t the plan.
Chuck,
The 2X points on Visa gc is back starting tomorrow (in S&S). The limit in the Giant ad now shows as $1500 rather than $2K. The S&S circular doesn’t show the entire terms but it’s probably the same $1500 limit now.
Apologies if following has been previously noted/discussed —
My Giant and Fuel Rewards accounts have been linked for a long time, such that Giant fuel points could be used at any FR (Shell) station. In this past, this was the case at FR stations well outside of the Giant/S&S footprint, e.g. South Carolina. Recently, however, when I tried this, I only got my standard 5 cent FR discount, despite the FR account showing several dollars worth of discount points from Giant.
tldr; My working conclusion is that Giant points cannot be used outside of the Giant store footprint, even at FR stations. Any comments welcome.
Bought 2 and points posted almost immediately. Just be aware that the newer white jacket cards have a 6.95 fee (the actual card number starts with 40) versus 5.95 fee for the older silver jacket cards (the actual card number starts with 41). Saw this only after buying. I guess the card issuer does not matter…I have seen issuers name Metabank, Inncomm, Pathward and Sutton on all varieties.
Pathward is the new name for MetaBank. MetaBank/Pathward and Sutton are the 2 issuers (banks) of the Vanilla gc. Incomm is the servicer of all of the Vanilla gc in S&S.
Load a few to pay my taxes.
So the new cards have part of the barcode on the card and on the packaging. CS lady told me to not take the ones where you can see a sticker was applied over the card barcode.
