How To Get The Chase IHG 80,000 Point + $50 Statement Credit Offer

For awhile there has been a link floating around for a 80,000 point + $50 statement credit offer on the Chase IHG card. The problem is that the offer displays fine, but when you click apply it redirects you to an inferior 60,000 point + $50 statement credit offer. The best public offer at the moment is 70,000 points after $1,000 in spend.

It is possible to get the 80,000 point + $50 after $1,000 in spend offer , but it’s not exactly easy. Here is what you need to do:

  • Log into your IHG account
  • Search for a hotel room
  • If you don’t actually plan to stay there, make sure it’s a refundable room
  • Select a room
  • Pay with points (if you get the offer to trigger by paying with card, please let us know. Update: Reader NoVa Brad reports seeing the offer on the penultimate booking screen before he actually paid. YMMV.)
  • Underneath your confirmation information you should see the offer clearly displayed

chase ihg 80k $50

A few important points:

  • This offer does not always show up. In fact it rarely shows up, they will usually show you a 60,000 point offer.
  • Calling or sending a secured message to get matched to this offer does not work. If you try it, they will say that this offer is reserved for people that are targeted whilst booking a room, you can try saying that you booked a room and saw the offer but I doubt they will match it.
  • Making multiple reservations to try and get the offer to trigger will be unlikely to work, but it might. I think some accounts are targeted for this promotion and it will trigger when they make the booking, whereas others have other (lower) targeted promotions assigned to their account.
  • You can try checking your pre-approved offers with Chase. Chase let’s you check for pre-qualified offers, but in general they will only show Chase branded cards (e.g Chase Freedom or Chase Sapphire Preferred) so I doubt this offer would show. If it does, please let me know.

It looks like the credit card issuers and hotel chains are getting smarter, in the past they’ve shown these offers on the final payment page whereas now IHG is actually requiring you to complete a booking to see the offer. If you do or don’t get this offer to display, let me know what hotel/room you tried to book and the dates – maybe it’s being targeted that way.

Also I’d like your opinion, do you like seeing posts like this? Or would you rather I stick to credit card bonuses that are available to everybody?

Went through the list of IHG Pointbreaks, for Feb 22. Only got the $60k, 50 statement credit offer even in Chrome incognito mode after each try. =\

Nobody gives a shit about an IHG CC. Get a life and decent content, nub.

@MilesJunkie, I have not been doing this for all that long, so I am not totally clear on all the jargon. What is a nub?

Hey, MilesJunkie: I have a great idea. Why don’t you go read some other blog that has content you want to read. Don’t worry, none of us will miss you when you’re gone. 🙂

IHG is an incredible card. 60K to 80K points for sign up. No fee first year. AF of only $49 that gets you a room at virtually any IHG property, including some Intercontinentals in Asia and Europe that retail for over $400 a night. Have your SO get the card too, and that’s $900 of rooms for less than $100. Really, really NICE rooms, in great locations.

I appreciate posts like this. And different cards work for different people; MilesJunkie’s criticism is off the mark.

I started to go through the process of booking a room with points, but did not need to finish and actually book the room. Instead, the 80k/$50 statement credit offer displayed on the pre-confirmation screen (the penultimate screen where IHG confirms your address and dates with the “confirm reservation” button at the bottom).

Thanks for the tip.

Just going to the IHG website I saw an 80k point offer but no $50 statement credit. I only have 500 points so I can’t go through the steps to book with points.

I, for one, like posts like this.

This is a great post and I’ve been a fan of DoC for some time now. Keep it up.

And FWIW – I had seen this offer without having to book for many weeks until one day it disappeared a couple of weeks ago. I was annoyed when it did disappear as I was ready to make the move for it after getting rid of another Chase card. I needed to make a rezzie and ultimately did for a Miami HI hotel and got the offer to reappear. I immediately applied and confirmed the offer when I reached a Chase credit analyst.

Like the post, and the card
Question, any luck on getting multiples of this visa?

So, I have an email offer that’s about 2 weeks old for the 80k points. However, when I log into the IHG website, I get the 70k offer, when I log into the IHG app, I get a 60k offer, and when I start a booking I get a 60k + $50 offer. Is there any way to know what I would get if I actually apply for the one from my email? I.E. what is the shelf life of a targeted offer? Any idea? I don’t really wanna just try it lest I miss out on those 10k points, so I might just have to wait til the next 80k comes to my email.

William … Had the 80K offer w/ $50 credit pop-up when I went to IHG reservation. My Wife applied and was instantly approved on 03/07/15. Thanks for the road map. I like the idea that we both will get the free worldwide night each year for only $49 each.

William, thanks for the information.

I have been considering this card and am a big fan of Million Mile Secrets. I stumbled across your blog in search of a better offer than the standard 60k or 70k offering.

As you suggested, I logged into my account, started a points booking, and *boom* the offer appeared on the penultimate screen (per the comment section). Pretty amazing! The card was just approved.

By the way, I can’t believe you took that heat in the comments! 10k points is 50% of a night in most standard Holiday Inns across the US. IHG has a pretty amazing program. My wife and I were became big fans while staying at some amazing Intercontinental properties during our honeymoon. We received spectacular service.

Thanks again for the information.

Cheers,

Matt

FWIW I couldn’t get it to come up in IHG so applied for the 70k offer but Chase agreed to match the 80k via SM. They wouldn’t match the $50 statement credit though.

I keep getting the 70,000 offer on their main site or when I go to book a room with points, the 60,000 + $50 credit offer. I don’t have enough points to book any further than just looking so I can’t get to a second page. This seems really annoying they won’t just offer it up.
