Update: The phone offer no longer works, but you can still secured message to get matched to this bonus. More information here.
The current best public sign up bonus on the Chase IHG card is $50 statement credit after first purchase and 60,000 points after $1,000 in spending within three months. In this post we will show you how to get 80,000 points after $1,000 in spending within three months. In the past it’s been possible for some to get 80,000 points + $50 by doing a dummy booking on the IHG site, so give that a try first (or log into your account and try this link).
Call & Request Offer
This was originally posted on /r/churning by 2131andBeyond. But I found an even easier method via Flyertalk user prech. Here’s what you do:
- Call 8772740851
- Press 1 to apply
- It’ll repeat the offer details
Warning: I assume this is a real Chase number, but I have no way of confirming.
Apply For Lower Offer + Ask To Be Matched
This has been working for awhile now, you basically just apply for the best public sign up bonus and then call/secure message Chase asking them to match you to the higher 80,000 points. Some people have been able to keep the $50 statement credit and others have had that portion of the offer removed.
Our Verdict
80,000 points is about as good as it gets for public bonuses, some of you may want to hold out for 80,000 + $50 offers but if you have a plan for IHG points I’d just grab this offer now. I think the phone option is a much safer bet, but asking for a match might be worth the risk if you can get the extra $50. Again, personally I’d just go for the phone offer.
How long between apps for this card?
I got this site from my buddy who informed me regarding this web page and now this time I am visiting this website and reading very informative posts at this time.
Thanks for this info – I called yesterday and didn’t have to ask – they said the sign up bonus is 80,000 but no $50 credit. She said to call customer service after I meet the $1000 and ask for the $50. Approved right away and called customer service for expedited card, they said I’d receive it in 2 days at no charge 🙂 woohoo! I was in hurry because I’ve got dental work to do, might as well get a free mini vacation while I’m at it..
thanks!
My husband just applied over the phone the rep told him he’ll hear back from Chase via mail in 10 days. This matches the experience of comments from HML and PG earlier in the thread. I’m assuming he didn’t get instant approval because a credit analyst needs to review his application, but maybe that assumption is incorrect. With regards to the 5/24 rule, he has a total of 4 credit cards. That’s it. Three from Chase, one from Amex. He has excellent credit in the low 800s. So I need some advice. Does it make sense to call the reconsideration line and speed things up? I’m the churner in the family, so I’m the impatient one who can’t wait 10 days to find out. Or is it best to just wait for the mail? Thanks!
Thank you, I called the number and got approved for the 80K bonus points, the lady said we will receive our card in the mail in the next week to two weeks.
best regards!
R – Got no correspondence of any kind in between so was not sure if my application was ever processed, but finally received the card about a month after applying..
Just curious. Did any one receive their card after applying over phone?
Yes, I did the phone app and got approved for a ridiculous $21K CL and points posted really quick (met min spend in 1 month). I applied for Mariott’s at the same time, both went through… But the Marriott card took a week longer to arrive.
I did a google search and found the $50 offer with 80,000 points on Chase’s site – https://creditcards.chase.com/a1/ihg/ihgsaml80plus
If you click apply now it won’t work unless you’re targeted unfortunately.
Great job with the blog! Had a question – has anyone received the card in the mail yet when applying over the phone for the 80,000 point offer? I was told it would take a few weeks but applied back on Feb. 4th and still have not heard anything so was just curious.
Used the phone number listed above, took a while to find out that the offer is for 80K and it includes annual free night at anniversary, 1st year annual fee waive but no $50 statement credit. Got approved instantly. I hope the representative meant what he said… will find out soon.
