Update 1/17/22: Reports of generous retention offers again, including $595 and $695 statement credit offers.
In May we reported that American Express was offering some juicy retention offers on most credit cards. In the last week there has been some reports of a huge retention offer on the American Express Business Platinum card. Some cardholders are being offered 30,000 Membership Rewards points on renewal and then an additional 50,000 Membership Rewards points after $40,000 in spend within three months. Obviously the spend requirement of $40,000 will be difficult for a lot of people to meet.
Keep in mind this card is also offering a $200 appreciation credit on renewal currently as well. The American Express Business Platinum card also offers a $20 per month credit for both wireless and shipping purchases until December 31, 2020 as well. Obviously there is no guarantee you’ll get such an offer, but it is worth making the call.

1/19/23 – AmEx Platinum: 45K points after 4K spend in 3 months. Or 400 statement credit for 4k spend.
I just tried with the retention offer today and was offered $100 😂😂
$350 retention bonus on Amex Biz Plat at the old $595 annual fee today. I took it.
Looks like I was one of the unlucky ones. I only got offered $100 today on my Amex Biz Plat, which I turned down.
Recent (today) data point: Just got the $695 credit offer with no spend needed on my Biz Platinum via chat.
I called the retention number two days ago and they offered the $350. I accepted this offer. It still hasn’t posted to my account though. I don’t remember her saying it would not happen right away. How long does it take for the offer to post usually?

DP: My annual fee ($595) posted on 1/27 so I called today 2/26 to cancel. After going through all the benefits, the agent offered me $695 back! Last year, I had around 17k spending and had used the Dell and travel credits. For 2022, I had already used the travel credits, but hadn’t gotten around to using the Dell credits.
DP: Chatted with agent today. Took 5 minutes to review my account. The agent commented that I had used my Dell credit, phone bill credit, airline credit and TSA credit, but still came back with $695 retention offer.

Are we sure 1/13/22 was a hard deadline for assessing the increased AF on renewals? My AF (1st anniv) posted at $595 more than a week after that, and after a couple retention calls I received a statement credit to cover the fee if I kept the card open.
