Huntington Limiting Rewards Site Usage Until July 27th, 2018? [Back Up]

Site is back up and running, I guess they didn’t update the message properly.

Reader Kevin S tried to log into his Huntington Voice Rewards account to redeem some points and was greeted with the following:

Points can’t be redeemed online and Huntington is giving a date of July 27th of when it will be reopened. I assume that it’s still possible to redeem points via phone, but having your online rewards portal inaccessible for more than half a year seems excessive. There is also a rumor that Huntington will be launching a new business card with 5% categories in the near future, so maybe this change is part of that. The Huntington Voice card allows you to choose a category to earn 3% cash back rewards in, there is a limit of $2,000 in spend per quarter as well.

The “Auto Parts & Service” looks interesting. (Note that DrugStores are gone.) I hope the typical Car Repair shop will have the right MCC.

I agree they look mainly the same but the slight differences created this quest. I went into my local branch because I didn’t receive the followup call. I was told they were advised to pull all old signage with the old categories and replace with the new. They were surprised that my categories had not switched over. I asked when the new categories would appear for me. They needed to do research so I’ll call them after a couple of business days to follow up. A piece of interesting advice I received was to keep track of my cashback because a new company is managing that portion for them.Hopefully all of this information will be clarified when I call back.

Thought I would share this. Recently my spouse and I were out running errands and I accessed the main Huntington Voice site to review the categories to avoid duplication with Chase Freedom/Discover. I saw that they had slightly changed the categories to the following. Gas Stations, Travel/entertainment, Restaurants, Discount/Warehouse Stores, Grocery stores, Utilities & Office Supply Stores, Electronic/Computer/Camera Stores, Department/Apparel/Sporting Good Stores, Auto Parts & Service, & Home Improvement. After signing in and seeing the original categories (https://www.doctorofcredit.com/huntington-voice-credit-card-pick-your-own-3-cash-back-category/) I was told by Customer Service these categories are offered to new Voice customers currently, the updated categories weren’t supposed to be made public, and existing customers might not have the new categories available until second quarter 2018. I was promised a follow up call on 12/29/17 to explain this error and poor loyalty to existing customers.

I just finished my follow-up call and was advised that the categories will change in February to what is reflected on their current site for everyone. The agent also shared with me if you chose a category, for example Walmart, which is not reflected in the new categories it will default to one that will still credit you for your Walmart purchases.

Just a FYI: The Huntington site is back up. I was just able to log in, redeem my points for cashback, etc. with no issue.

This is almost certainly an old downtime message that hasn’t been updated for the current downtime window, I’d expect it to be back up tomorrow or Tuesday

July 27th is not a Monday! I hope this post wins me $10. My prediction is that it’s back tomorrow.

Seems excessive? This seems completely unacceptable. Bad form by Huntington.

I do like the news of a possible 5% biz card though.
