Our Verdict

The good thing about points bookings is you get a $175 resort credit per person per day and unlimited meals, snacks. The rates are as follows:

Cash rates seem to vary quite a lot. It seems with an award booking you’re basically getting Miraval Unlimited package and that seems to cost around $550+ per night. 22,500 points per night doesn’t seem like a terrible redemption, it’s annoying that the second person has an additional payment of 20,000 (10,000 after rebate). Anybody ever stayed here before? What’s it like? Kathy at Will Run For Miles has more details here.

Thanks for the posting.
So, Chase Hyatt sign-up 2 free night will work on this property for 2 people, and I need to contact them directly to reserve the room, am I correct?

Yes. I’m booked there in a few weeks. As others have mentioned, they wouldn’t allow me to apply a Globalist suite upgrade as those are limited to paid and points stays. Still, it’s a great deal for double occupancy. The regular rate would’ve been close to $3,500. If you want to check availability before calling, make sure the lowest category room is available for the desired dates. I forget the name but it’s below Dreamcatcher. It also has to be booked by someone actually on site, as opposed to the Miraval call center which is nearby. If Hyatt offers to send them a message to call you back during their limited hours, you may want to forget ever hearing anything. They told me I’d get a call first thing the next day, and I finally gave up and called them again after 8pm.

Thank you so much for altering me to this deal.

I just got back from 2 glorious days at Miraval, Hyatt upgraded me to a suite for both nights, and wow was this a good value.

This is in the top 3 hotel experiences of my life.

So amazing!

Pulled the plug and redeemed at the last minute for a three-night award stay. Got a fantastic upgrade to a Sunrise King (in the ideal building with unobstructed views and private outdoor showers). Pleased to discover things have improved since my last visit here 3+ years ago. The last two owners (with no background in lodging or luxury experiences) were focused on cutting costs, reducing services, laying off long-time employees, and adding surcharges for things that were previously free (want a second dessert at the all-inclusive resort? It’ll cost ya!). The food, while always excellent, has definitely been stepped up a notch. They’re also now proactively asking if guests would like a (complimentary) second entree or dessert. (I know you may be thinking: who wants two desserts? Well, the sweets are small portions here by design; and also when there are five options, it’s not uncommon for two people to want to sample at least three of them). Hyatt has hired back most if not all of the workers that had been let go before. Miraval has been open 21 years, and it’s wonderful to see a number of faces that have been here at least half of that time.

Members of Authentic Circle (Miraval’s loyalty program that kicks in on the fourth stay) also receive an additional $100 resort credit even on award stays. That’s always been true for paid stays, but it’s especially nice to see them continue the tradition on a free visit. Although AC members are provocatively upgraded, it would appear anecdotally that being a Globalist trumps that. There are some AC members who’ve been here dozens of times, booked well in advance, and found themselves in regular rooms while paying full price. Am I ashamed to be in an awesome room for free? Not at all! 🙂

I did ask when Miraval would be integrated with Hyatt’s reservation system. They’ve been told this will never happen, that they’ll always have their proprietary system and booked separately. It does mean confirming an award stay takes a bit longer, since you have to call Miraval and they have to then call Hyatt to request the reception, but it still happens relatively quickly.

I’m looking forward to returning in the fall with a friend so I can use my Hyatt Credit Card free night certificates for a double occupancy stay.

Oh, and as an aside: even though this is the off season because of the typical weather, it’s currently much cooler here than many places around the country, including my home in Atlanta. It’s even rained a bit each day, which just makes the desert landscape that much more beautiful.

This looks like a fabulous property if you want to experience the full “wellness resort/spa” experience (which I never have). If I was going to Arizona (I’d hoped to go this month but family issues necessitated otherwise), I’d be more interested in checking out the Andaz Scottsdale which has amazing summer rates. PS, temps well over 100 degrees this time of year in AZ….

Sorry if I am just missing something… A three night double occupancy points stay would be 45k x3 + 20k x3 = 195k points with a rebate of 97.5k points back to the account 8 weeks later. What I am missing is why / how you would earn $175×2 per day resort credit and what would you spend $1050 on property for at an all inclusive? Nevermind, I think I got it, Spa treatments are not included in the all inclusive? If that’s the case, are we talking about $400 for a 1-hr massage?

The $175 per person per day can be combined for the entire stay, so you do not need to redeem the $175 each day. In addition to spa services, you can spend the money on classes, horseback riding, hikes, bee keeper courses, etc. I was only told you can not use it in the store or on alcohol. I just booked my stay and was looking at all the services they offer and I saw a 50 min Swedish massage for $150. I was also told no one is allowed to accept tips and they can be fired for doing so.

I have all the details in my blog post yesterday about which Hyatt free night stays can be used at the Miraval and which ones can’t be use. I got the info directly from Hyatt..

I can confirm that chase nights will work here, but the globalist free night WILL NOT. Ended up redeeming for a one-night stay since I’m scottsdale-based, double occupancy. Resort credit nearly wipes away 10,000 point extra for the second person.

Wish I could’ve used my free globalist night, though 🙁

Where do you see the unlimited meals and snack thing?

Lived in Tucson for the past 15 years and had no idea this place existed. Rates are insane, especially for the summer, it’s been crazy hot here. The money or points you spend there could get you something at someplace a lot better.

The main problem with this offer is the fact that most people don’t have 195,000 Hyatt / UR points sitting around in their accounts for a three night stay. Plenty of people probably could come up with 97,500 though. Giving the points out as a rebate instead of as a straight discount is a good way to limit this offer to a very small subset of rewards members, those that have massive point balances who are willing to spend hundreds of thousands of points on a resort in Arizona. I have about 125k Hyatt points available and will definitely be using them towards Hyatt Ziva / Zilara Cancun over this place. Who wants to be in the middle of Arizona during summer anyways!
