Hyatt Reservations Through July 31st, 2021 Can Be Cancelled For Free

When Hyatt announced their COVID-19 response one of the measures added waiving cancellation & change fees. Hyatt has now announced no change or cancellation fees will be charged for bookings through July 31st, 2021 as long as the booking is made directly with Hyatt and cancelled at least 24 hours before the stay. The unfortunate news is that this doesn’t apply to all Hyatt bookings as some hotels may adjust this cancellation policy during high demand periods. Some Destination hotel properties and Hyatt Residence Club properties are also excluded.

This is a good policy, but the fact that they are allowed hotels the ability to not follow it during certain periods makes it frustrating to actually use as it means you need to look at the refund policy before each booking.

I’ve noticed some properties I would stay at had made a “Special Event” between Christmas and Around January 4th so any bookings for those dates are completely non-refundable.

What will they do if you make a reservation for 2021 and then cancel the credit card you used to make the reservation before you cancel? Would they refund the money back to another card or would you have to claw the refund back from the canceled card issuer?

You’d have to get the refund from the issuer.

I hope Hilton updates their cancelation policy. I had booked 5 nights in Rome in July as a part of a 30 day trip to Europe and I had used the “advanced purchase” rate and I’m not allowed to cancel. I think that will just be $2,000 flushed at this point.

Same here, Waldorf Astoria in Rome checking in mid July. The only hotel I have not been able to have refunded on my trip. Very frustrating indeed.
