- Save the digital coupon to get 4x fuel points on participating third-party gift cards.
- Save the digital coupon to get 4x fuel points on Visa and Mastercard fixed-value gift cards.
Some people might also have discounted gift card coupons saved in their coupons which will stack nicely with this. The standard deal at Kroger is 2x fuel points on gift card purchases, and they’ll occasionally release offers for 4x.
The Fine Print
- Valid this weekend – Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday (5/25-5/28).
- Fuel points earned in May will be valid through the end of June.
- Usually, every 1000 fuel points will get you a discount of $1 per gallon with a 35-gallon limit, a max value of $35 per 1000-points, though these details do vary by store and region.
Our Verdict
I figure people like a headsup on these kinds of deals. We’ll repost Friday. It also times nicely because Kroger is running a summer-long coupon to get double points on groceries when shopping on the weekend. Grocery purchases made this quarter can get 5% back with Chase Freedom and Discover IT cards as part of the quarterly categories.
Does anyone else see that Ralphs does not earn points on fuel gift cards?
Does anyone know if you can buy a Visa gift card using a Chase Freedom card to get both the 4x fuel points and the 5% Chase rewards on the same purchase?
Yes! You can do that!
Additionally, depending on how many gallons of gas you buy, you can somewhat triple dip by buying visa gift cards at 4x with your freedom, then buy gift cards with your visa gift card, netting a big discount on the cards plus fuel points for all cards. If you max out the $1 off 35 gallons, it results in quite the savings. Don’t forget to price out gas around you though. My local Kroger gas price is currently $0.09 more than the Costco I frequent so I just calculate that into what my savings are.
Hey Jared, I’ve been thinking about how to maximize Kroger fuel points, so this is interesting to me. My question is, if you’re paying an activation fee of $4.95 or $5.95 or whatever it is for the Visa gift cards, then it seems to me that you’re cutting into your savings considerably, right?
I was thinking about the same thing as
Jared and yes you do have to offset the fees i.e. two $100 cards ($200) will save you $28 off 35 gallons of gas (single vehicle -one fill-up – but you can fill gas cans at the same time and your tank). $200 will cost you $11.90 in activation fees, so you will save $16.10 on 35 gallons of Gas, if you do turn around and can use the VGC/MCGC and buy other GC, you may get 4X on those cards as well so you could save $23.10 on 35 gallons of Gas, and still have $.60 off a gallon left (So if you have zero fuel point left this month from April spending, you could use part of the points this month and the rest next month.
This is from a 500 Fuel rewards pointst adjustment from April, but they were thinking dollars instead of points, but they did fix it they following day.

You aren’t really cutting into any savings. Rather, you are saving an additional amount if you are able to buy with a Chase Freedom card during this quarter’s 5% cash back at grocery stores. Basically, you are “triple” dipping instead of just “double” dipping with your credit card and the gas points.
When the 5X UR quarter is over there is away I’ve found that with some CC the fuel Kiosk at some Kroger & affiliate stores code as “fuel or Gas stations” depending on the issuer – you can check by choosing to pay for fuel inside (Kiosk rather than pump) or you could just pop-in and grab a Soda or Candy bar/chips and see how points code on your card. So depending on the issuer up to 3X points.
Then next 4X promo, you can choose to pay inside either after filling up or just for some fuel i.e. 3 gallons because will give an odd total like $9.37 then you can also pay for the 2 or 3 Fixed value VGC/MCG at the same time that you put in your back pocket and forget to get them activated when you were checking out. More than $300-$400 at a fuel center will get overlooked and consider boat fuel. Just make sure you use your Loyalty card/number at the pump or inside before paying.
Can we buy GCs at Turkey Hill and earn fuel points? Sadly, no Kroger stores in PA (Philly suburbs)

Can I combine Gift Card 4X and Visa 4X as a 8X?
No. The 4x gift card applies only to certain gift cards, which is usually all of them except visa, mc, amex, and Kroger.
Kroger is also doing a 2x points on Fri-Sun on pretty much everything in the store except money center. This deal also does not stack with the 4x on cards.
