The standard deal at Kroger stores is 2x fuel points on gift card purchases, and they’ll occasionally release offers like this one to get 4x fuel points.
All third-party gift cards seem to be included in this offer. In the past, there have been mixed reports on whether fixed-denomination Visa/MC/Amex gift cards worked to trigger the bonus fuel points. The terms imply that they do work, but it’s YMMV in practice.
Double Points on Weekends this Summer
We already posted this offer a couple weeks ago, but we’ll add it here again as a reminder since it’s valid the entire summer.
- Get double fuel points on weekends the entire summer through July 31
- Weekends are defined as Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
It’s especially convenient to shop at Kroger this weekend since both deals are ongoing: you’ll get 4x fuel points on gift cards and 2x fuel points on ordinary purchases.
Our Verdict
Good to see fuel points deals now which pairs beautifully with the 5x rewards using the Chase Freedom card for Q2 2016.
To maximize the deal even further, remember that you can get free cell phone service with Kroger when you earn fuel rewards points; no points are used up with this benefit, it’s just an additional free perk which you get from fuel points, aside from the free gas.
Points Details
Usually, every 1000 points will get you a discount of $1 per gallon with a 35-gallon limit, a max value of $35 per 1000-points. These details do vary by store and region.

I love how Kroger has increased the frequency of the 4x on GC promos. I used to have to time my GC purchases a lot more strategically to maximize the value of the program, but now they seem to run the 4x promos monthly (and sometimes twice during the month, with the weekend promos).
Can't wait for my new F-150 to be delivered. The optional 36 gallon fuel tank that I ordered on the truck will greatly reduce the number of gas cans I have to bring with me to the Kroger fuel station.
Any data points here if the $100 vgcs give points at fredmeyer stores?
Just as I was getting into this game, Stop and Shop stopped giving fuel points for gift cards :( No Krogers in the Northeast and that's all I see here lately for gas points. Anyone in the Northeast have tips for regional chains with fuel point stacking on GC purchases?
